If a one piece is good,2&3 not as good, how about 35?

Well it seems word is getting around my hometown about me making these bodies out of some weird things.I was over at a buddies the other night fixing his computer, and he was doing some renos in his house. It's an old house and had some tongue & groove fir on one wall.He has ripped it down and was putting up drywall. When we walked through the room he caught me eying this T&G fir and made the comment,

"I suppose you want that stuff to build a guitar out of"

This is what it looked like

Well it is 4" wide and about a 1/2" thick.Thats a lot of planning
Well, one big box of sawdust later,a bottle of glue,we have.......

Hmmmm,what to call it?????

The Lamocaster??
The Fircaster III

Anyway

I did a mild tummy cut and contour on this, just to try.Never done one before

Well it's different.Lots of sanding to do on it.Maybe a nice light Burnt Sienna stain????
We will see

I'm thinking that once you reach 25 pieces, the resonance would really go all to hell. The sonic qualities of the glue would also come into play, what with hide yealding greater flexibility and thus a some what rounder tone vs the midrangy stiffness of the yellow carpenter's glue. For a really bright tone, you might want to try epoxy.

Also I hope you took great care to assure your bridge screws hit the center of the laminates, as it is a well known fact that imbedding a screw along a joint is a known tone killer.

The jury is still out on the effect of odd or even numbers of laminates on tone.

Neat.

Odd how some of that wood is quarter sawn and other pieces are slab cut.

Do you think it is old enough that it has stopped "moving"?

Yeah, I think you would have been safe with 20 but 25!?!

We wouldn't want to overstep any boundaries...

35 = 7 * 5
7-5 = 2
2/2=1

(this is the guitar body mojo calculator... also referred to as mark twain math)

it will sound awesome... make sure to put some good pickups on it and a great amp!

I'm thinking if you cast a Tele body out of pure Elmers it would still sound like a Tele.

That's a looker!

YOU would never get out of my wood storage shed .......

Ok I have a Telecaster shaped piece of SM foam from making my case. Do I have to make it out of that?

That is a PITA glue up.

you're gonna have to change your .sig,

Before throwing it out make sure you can't make a tele out of it, regardless of dimensions and material.

Enjoy how you think outside the box.

You never cease to amaze us, Marty.........I'll bet that's going to be very stable - reminds me of some laminated gunstocks. Very purty, BTW.

Just wonderin' - have you thought about making a body out of all your scrap sawdust?

Jim

So, you CAN make a Tele out of ANYTHING! Very cool! I'm amazed at some of the builds I've seen here. Can't wait to see the finished guitar.

That square MDF-caster some one made (Sorry I forget who...) sounded fine, I'm sure this is gonna be cool too. It looks great and you've done a really good job on the build so far. I like the tummy contour, very well done.

That's really cool, really imaginative, Marty!

But Terry has you so whupped. I'll have you know that MDF-caster has 114,573 individual pieces of wood in the body, you've got sech a long way to go.

Maybe so,but he didn't glue them together himself
(which was a tricky process I may add )
