+1 Bring on the Spinal Tap Lap Steel!
I too have a Gibson Signature model, but I really worked at it to make an instrument that is really personalized and built to different specs than a standard model. I can tell you, at least in my case, it's not just a regular model with my name on it.

I should have certainly put Mr. Easton in the "elite company" list.
My apologies. There are a few others that I shouldn't have missed - Chet Atkins, Garry Moore, BB King and many others.

This is slipknot hahah.

OH MY!...... I think I'd wear a mask, too. I guess that's talented by today's standards...... But, do you reckon they know any Buck Owens, Muddy Waters, Roy Buchanan, Steve Cropper, or Danny Gatton tunes? (just to mention a few) . Not that they'd need to, to be talented mind you. I am just not a fan of the frenzied, no resolution, type of tune.
It will sell guitars to a completely different demographic, though. I'm certain that is the purpose of that particular sig tele. Just my opinion here, TEHO.

I'm not sure if it's THE Elliot Easton, but if that's his handle, I presume
it is. Certainly belongs on the "elite" list, in my book!

Please, don't apologize; I was just making the point that my guitar was not a marketing gimmick but an actual different guitar based on some ideas that I had which Gibson dug.

Elliot...that was my point, really. That Gibson's "artist" models reflect the artist, their instruments and are more of a tribute to them, than pandering to the fan base.

Wow, that's really cool. It's so awesome to have "real" guitarists on the TDPRI, arguing about pickguards and maple vs. rosewood.

So what do you think of Jim Root?

hell, i never put two and two together with Elliot. he even had the lefty avatar. well nice to be able to talk elliot.

anyway, speaking of gibson artist series guitars, Tom Delonge has one that is really cool looking, and something that you really can't get out of any other gibson model

http://www.gibson.com/products/gibso...omdelonge.html

his fender model was also cool, at least in the style department. it's too bad he doesn't really have the apparent skill (or doesn't show it off) to back it up. not trying to be harsh to Tom or his fans, but I think the music will clearly show that.

Maybe these artists were approached and refused? There are thousands of great guitarists of different genres - they can't all have signature axes.

I actually admire Jimmmy Vaughan, for stipulating his guitar should be affordable and MIM, and it comes with sensible upgrades like the Gotohs and fatter neck/flatter radius/bigger frets and his switching scheme, which I like.

One of the best new Fenders of any price range you can buy IMO. I don't like or get Slipknot, but for whatever reason, or maybe rebellion against the BC Rich/Ibanez/Charvel/whoever cabal who market to metal players, some of these guys have modded Teles and Fender has picked up on that.

I don't have to like 'em or play them, but if kids pick them up it can only be good longterm, at least as far as Fender business goes. We only get things like the Custom Shop, FSR and VIntage Reissues or Players guitars because of the kids who buy Squires in reams and the like.

OK....I am dizzy now

Fender has to chase endorsements for all kinds of music. Capitalism is based on the growth factor. Leo came up with a rare thing. A product that doesn't change, grow or evolve into something else.

The beauty of the design is of course it's adaptability.

To me the Tele is a very comfortable guitar. So much so that I have never even looked for another electric. After 30 years of owning it I finally did buy another 335 style electric.

I suspect that the Heavy metal guys find it the same. It just feels right.

After having gone through the building process and getting to know all the curves. I can't stop looking at them. I just love the lines.

Leo of course did it right more than once. But the Tele shape was first.

I think the Tele is going through the most rapid growth phase in it's history. Great to see. Shoretyus is right-on. Teles can do it all. And I'm glad Fender's expanding the product line. Better for guys like us, who appreciate them. More jazz players using Teles with humbuckers, as well. I've been thinking about a 335, too. But, maybe it'll be a Tele, with some Mike Stern-type of mods.

I'm sure I am in the minority here but I think a "Signature Series" from any company is kinda silly. In my opinion it has gotten way out of hand.

Hey, Tim is the new MAN in the barrel , how about him?

Elliot, maybe you could post a current pic of you and silence the 'doubting thomases'. Happy to have your input and experiences to read, here. It's probably, rightfully of little consequence to you. I don't get why folks wonder if it's you.

What........a real star can't have a love for the tele and post like everybody else on this list?????? He's not the only famous person, here. A most pleasant fellow, I might add.
Just my opine.......

There was a terrific article in one of the Guitar mags about six months ago, with a cover story on Elliot, including some details
on his signature SG. It was a good read. Might have been Vintage Guitar, Guitar Collector...one of the those, if I recall.

PJ,you're right on a couple of things. I WOULD LOVE to have this guitar in Lake Placid Blue with white EMG's .I'm not a Slipnot or Stonesour fan AT ALL.To ME the guitar was exactly what I needed for MY style.I don't give a f*&k if we go back in a time machine, make sure Jim Root was never born, then come back and present this guitar variation to Fender for production so I could still play it without Jim's existance!
The other thing you were dead on about that I was indifferent of when I got the guitar is that a tone pot would absolutely make it better.I would want it out of the way and far from the vol pot,but when you turn down you can tell there's no tone pot.It
