Best color chart for historic Fender colors online?
What's the best source online for historic Fender colors? I'm particularly interested in finding a source that indicates when various colors were available.
This is the best one I've found so far, but it doesn't indicate the years colors were available (at least not consistently): http://www.novaks.org/restors/FenderColors/index.shtml |

funny you should mention this...
...because I was trying to post the exact same question earlier to the board and my system went down!
I wrote this long post, so I'll cut to chase here. My boss is a Corvette guy (owns a vintage Sting Ray) and has an excellent book that details the complete history of the car over its entire production life (well at least up to the date it was published). Anyway, for any model year you get the all the gory details: What colors, what engines, interiors, exteriors, how many were made, how much HP, etc. Does this info exist for Strats and Teles? I'd be interested in this because I just bought a new ash body and vintage all maple neck from Warmoth and I want to my own late '50s repro. So if anybody out there can answer these questions, thanks! 1) Was LPB available in the mid - late 50's? I want to match it with a maple fingerboard and I always associate LPB with rosewood boards of the 60s. Was LPB an option in the 50's? 2) What other custom colors were around in the 50s? CAR, Sea Foam, Shoreline Gold, etc? 3) Did Fender spray matching headstocks in the 50s? 4) What did Tele pickguards become 3 ply and 8 holes? I'd prefer a single white ply 5 hole guard similiar to the blackguard. Thanks, Jerry |

Well this won't answer all your questions but it makes for really good reading anyway. http://www.provide.net/~cfh/fenderc.html |
