Some D Gilmour Tele goodness for y'all

Ran across this on youtube....Dave doing "don't" on his trusty Tele. He seems to have a weird looking pickup on the neck...would this be the original one, or has it been modded. Enjoy

It is Esquire. That neck pickup was added later, by Seymour Duncan maybe but I am not sure.
This guitas has the most airy Tele tone I ever heard

Did some research on google. Your right, its a '55 Esquire, but the Seymour Duncan was added later. Damn..imagine how much that thing would go for on Ebay lol.

What is this Tweed amp behind him? It looks and sounds exactly like my new Blues Deluxe, but I doubt that Gilmour would play on such amp.
On the other hand this was Leiber Stoller evening, Gilmour appeared as guest, and he probably didn't bring his amp for just one song

As I was watching that I was thinking "how does he always have such great tone", and then it hit me. I don't think his tone really comes from any pickup config or amp or whatever. He could make a squier affinity sound the same. It's all in his playing.

I've always liked Gilmour's playing, but I usually associate him with racks of signal processing equipment. It's nice to hear him playing through a simple set-up.

Hadn't seen those clips before..thanks. Love the close up picture of his Tele.....that thing has mojo coming out of its frets.

Poor old Paul McCartney he actually looked young and sprightly 9 years ago....Heather must have sucked the life out of him along with his cash.

Great tone.

He has compressed the hell out of the rhythm clean sound, probably with a pedal form the sounds of it- there is almost no attack to the tone and then it blooms slightly.
Very cool.
