My 1st (two) "Broadcaster" builds...

Well I was gonna just build these guitar then post a thread with a few pics...
but I decided I'd go into a little more depth...so I'm starting just a little ways through the process...
they will be my take on a couple of Broadcasters with RW boards
a few months ago I decided to build one & ordered a Musikraft neck...

neck specs:
quartersawn maple
slab Madagascar RW
6105 frets
12" radius
"fat D" profile- 9.00 to 1.0
tinted nitro
got kinda use to the 12" radius playing my R8 Les Paul...
this neck profile is almost exactly the same feel as my LP!

I had email conversations with Brian Poe about a certain 2 piece body...
then at the last minute saw a KILLER 1 piece so I ended up buying both!

body specs:
Broadcaster bodies
1 piece 3.4 # swamp ash
2 piece 3.7 # swamp ash ...

I decided to do the 2 piece body in Surf Green...
been wanting a Surf Green guitar for a while...
I'll be doing the 1 piece guitar in "sunburst" Amber ...
just the amber no dark "bursty"...
so you'll be able to see the grain & can tell it's a one piece body...
I've already sprayed the Surf green body color (wish I'd done some pics before)...
sprayed 4 coats of clear today...I'll get pics tomorrow
haven't recieved the 2 nd neck yet...but both necks will have the same specs...
here's some pics-0-the 1 piece body (KILLER GRAIN)...

looking good !

you've got some great parts there, should be 2 fine teles - i really like the tint musikraft put on your neck - i am starting my first partscaster and am going through the process of getting my hardware and fiquring out which way to go with my finish - i like your solution - do both ! did you use reranch or stewmac or other for your paint and amber burst ?

looking forward to more pics -

- i'm not a complete idiot ... some parts are missing -

Yeah I think Musikraft did a great job on the neck that I have...
I got an email that the other neck has shipped , so it should be here soon...
My brother has a nice hand held sprayer...he did the sand & seal with it...
did 2 coats of B.I.N.'s white pigmented shellac (suggested by Reranch as a primmer before the color coats)...
the used Reranch's Surf green...
here's a few pics after the color coats...

We did the color coats with Surf Green from Reranch...
came out a little more blue that what I think of when I think Surf green...
I think of the color of this shirt that came from Glendale...

We sprayed some clear coats with my brothers sprayer...
but were having trouble with "floating debris" hair/dust...
so i came inside & sprayed with the "tinted" clear nitro I got from Reranch, and it started to "green" up purty nicely...
kinda hard to get a nice even coat out of the can though...if anyone has any sugestion I'd appreciate it...

yeah, the green does look a little too blue - thought it was the digital camera/computer - glad to hear the tinted lacquer brought out more green - i've seen some older daphne/sonic blue guitars that had a green tint from the yellowing lacquer clear coat - how is the amber burst working out on the 1 piece body ? will you be using the tinted lacquer over that as well ? post some more pics when you get a chance -

Yeah I could swear I saw a "jeff beck" Surf green guitar about 10 years ago & I remember thinking now that's a green guitar...now most the pics I see of Surf green guitars look almost Daphne Blue...
Well I wasn't real happy the way the Surf guitar was looking ... I find it kinda hard to get an even coat with the spray can...so I had some paint mixed matching the shirt color...so we'll give my brothers sprayer another shot...
I haven't started doing the 1 piece body yet...wanted to be sure I could do the 2 piece half way decent 1st, if not I'll send the 1 piece to a pro...
.................................................. ..................................................

I did get the other neck today...it has some pretty unusual grain on the board, tint not quite as dark on it ...it seems to fit the one piece body a little better though ...so I'll probably put it on there...here's a few pics of the other neck...

well gonna go to my brother's house & see if he got a coat of paint on the Surf guitar...

well build is on "hold" for a while...
sent bodies to Mark Jenny to have them finished...
Bodies are so great I decided to let a PRO do the job...
I couldn't get the results I wanted doing it myself... :^(
