Krylon H20 Latex

Has anyone ever used this type of paint under nitro lacquer (e.g. Deft, RR) or other clears before? Pros/cons to using it on a guitar body?

Thanks in advance for your input.

I dunno about Krylon. . is it in a spray can... what are you trying to do.

I have used artists acrylic water based paints to do art, then clearcoated with nitro with great results... See "Rocky" . . . those paints are available at crafts type stores like Michaels, or Jo Anne's ( both full of wimmen shoppers so take a hand full of 'ludes before entering.)

More info...

Sorry... Here's a bit more detail.

It is a spray can. It looks like this:

Some of the colors are slightly different in the different product lines. So, just wondering if it's useable or not in a guitar application.

How long did you wait after the acrylic?

Latex, the real Latex, never gets completely hard, it's basically a rubber coating. However, since there is a proliferation of the “art” of misusing seemingly specific words to describe coatings today, the stuff in the can could be anything.

Here's what I'd do.... spray a non porous surface, Melamine is what I use, But a piece of galvanized metal, or glass, anything the paint will not soak into, with the H2O. Wait a few days, as you would any experimental finish. Mask off a section to keep it un-coated, then spray with the Nitro.... If it looks like a topo map the next day, wait another week, then try again on the masked off section. If it still crinkles, fuggidaboutit.... it's not compatible.

Oh, put down good thick wet coats, really make the chemistry “dance” to see if they can get along with each other.

That product may have been reformulated at least once since introduction.

My neighborhood hardware store (yeah!) stocked a whole passel of that, then he slashed the price to like $ 2 a can to make it go away. He told me ( of last years' version, I have no idea what is being sold in CA today ) "you don't want that".

What a feeling, when a store actually knows the customer that well!

And he ain't open on Sundays, forget it.
