I love this video!
I met Kenny Vaughn a few times last November and he is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. We talked guitars, hats, Porter Wagoner's Nudie suits. He is so cool. I think the neck pup might be a Strat pup. That's what is on Clarence's/Marty's tele.

Thanks for posting that - awesome picking by both.
Kinda funny, but I remember the host of that show (Craig Ferguson) from when I grew up in Scotland. He was an alternative comedian (not that funny) with the stagename of Bing Hitler! Hes much more mainstream now.

It is. Marty bought it from Clarence's widow, Susie, in 1979 (I think). I'll be seeing Marty up close and personal on July 17, 2008 when the band I'm in (Irons In The Fire) opens for him in Hiawassee, GA! Two shows at 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m., baby!! *goes back to watch the video again* Is that Brian Glenn with Marty? I thought I read somewhere that he had left?

I missed that one, thanks for posting. Man, Craig Ferguson must be pretty low budget. Can't they afford another mic?

Nice! Love Marty Stuart.
That looks like a Strat pickup in the neck of Kenny's guitar.

I'm kind of embarrassed to say this, but I really paid attention to Marty for the first time when he hosted the "Opry Live" show on CMT when they inducted Charlie Daniels into the Opry a month or two ago.
He and Kenny blew me away. I went out to his website to look for tour dates - lo and behold they were playing at the Clay County Fair just outside of my hometown! (Jax FL). What a great show. If you like guitar pickin' check them out. They are the real deal!!! Here's a funny story from the show: The band is very versatile and they do some ol'timey gospel with 4-part harmony. Marty introduced one of these songs - a Mavis Staples tune, I forget the name. Things got quite and reverent and they began to sing. Before they finished the first verse the pig races started right next door to the concert venue (a big open rodeo arena with a roof) . The pig race announcer was so loud and the moment so surreal that Marty could hardly keep from laughing during the song - but they finished the song and then got back to music that could complete with the pig races. What a hoot! |
