**What Color Is This Telecaster?**

My Frontline catalogs only go back as far as 2002. This is a '95 MIM Standard. It's a metallic blue............. but what blue? In an earlier thread I was told Blue Agave wasn't used in 1995. In the '90s, I wasn't the guitar nut I've become in recent years. Here it is beside a known color ...... Lake Placid Blue. So what color is it?

......

Here it is in natural light.

It looks to me like....TEAL.
Same color as my 1993 Honda Shadow VLX600 motorcycle.

Hmmm............. looks like it could be Ice Blue Metallic. Does anyone have any literature indicating that was an available MIM Standard color in the Mid-'90s?

Well you have to consider that the pictures weren't taken under the same conditions. I'd say it has to be one of the two colors shown.

I think somewhere I have a '95 catalog, from when I bought an AmStd Strat.

But, it's at home and I'm not. I'll check tonight.

Looks too dark (and too blue) to be Ice Blue Metallic. Here's my IBM Strat:

Metallic finishes are extremely difficult to catch in a photo, because they reflect the surroundings, even light conditions, to a larger degree than do the plain colors. The area around the jack input is closest to "real life" ...

I'm trying to check Fender's old site with the Wayback Machine at archive.org, but the server seems to be borked...

Your Strat looks like light Monkey Poop Metallic Green on my PC. ;)
So, yea... Flash, non flash, ambient light. I have a Purple Metallic AS Tele that looks like a different color every time I take a digi pic. I wonder if actually using a film camera [remember those] would be more consistent.

I vote for IBM. What-ever it is, I like it. Nice git!!

Is it this purple? Cause I've been trying to photograph the color for ten years !

Do you suppose that the codes on the MIM guitars, inside the pocket and so forth, can be deciphered by the folks at Fender?

This blue has more red in it, almost a periwinkle color, than any I can think of.

I thought my AS 1999 Tele body was that 59 GM Burgundy Mist color, that was what it said in the eBay aux-shun. But a TDPRI member saw the bar code in a pic and pointed me to a Fender PDF support file which showed it is in fact a Metallic Purple. This place has so much information among the users it is awesome and scary at the same time. ;)

OK... Archive.org started working... It only goes back to '96, though.

Apparently, according to the page from '96, that's called Lake Placid Blue.

Jack,

Looks an awful lot like my American Series Tele, which is AquaMarine Blue...

.... maybe a shade darker, or with a little "grey" added?

Sorry I can't be of more help...

It could be like how my MIM Tex Mex Tele Special is called Sonic Blue but seems to be darker than half the examples I find these days.

I agree, but it's also far from the Ice Blue Metallic on my Strat, no matter what the light conditions may be.

Of the more recent Fender colors, it looks closest to 29 Blue Agave, through my eyes ...

It does look too dark to be ice blue metallic.

This is supposed to be a '94 body in ice blue metallic. When I bought it, I assumed it was MIM. But that was before I knew about the micro-tilt mechanism in the neck pocket. Not so sure now... But the color is correct. (And it's cleaning up nicely with a little rubbing & polishing compound!)

Ciao,
Rick
