A few months late to this thread but I was doing a search for that color, also and I came upon your thread. I bought an American Standard Tele, new, in early 1989 which is that color. It is called Gunmetal Blue.
Further than that. I can't help you. FMIC has no more information on that color than I just gave you. I know the color wasn't used for long...a couple of years maybe? In the 20 years I've toured using that guitar I've only run across one other Fender that color (other than a couple of pictures on a forum) and it was a Strat. There are some pics in my album, here, but the lighting they were taken in was very bad and they don't really show the true color. |

I bought my first fender in 1995 and the MIM standards were my price range. I did a lot of research and I know it does not look like lake placid blue but I am 99% sure that is what they were calling it then.

I don't know why, I don't really like blue Telecasters, but I love some of the blue stratocasters, like LPB and blueburst. Esp LPB with very dark(black) fretboard and maybe knobs, pickups, PGs etc in black.
