Rig to hold your guitar while you paint
I'm sure I've seen them on here, but search didn't help me.
I've seen some of you post pictures of the rig you use to hold your guitars while you paint them. Any chance of posting a pic or a link to the pics? Thanks Dep |

I made a few paint sticks from 1 in. PVC pipe by flatening one end with heat and a vise. They work great because you can hang them or place them over a dowel or pipe stuck into a block of wood on the floor or a block clamped to a workbench.

A hole is drilled in the side of this 4' x 8' bench of which the conduit stick goes through.
Shower Curtain Booth jwells idea looks more versatile tho...

I stole this idea from Dan Erlewine... I don't have photos, so try to picture it. I first cut a paint stick from 3/4" mdf and attach it to the body in the neck cavity. Buckocaster's threads have tons of pictures of this. I then take two scrap pieces of mdf. One about 4"x4" and one about 4"x8". I stack the larger on top of the smaller creating a 4" "lip" and clamp them to the edge of my bench. This allows me to slide the paint stick under the "lip", holding the body suspended. I spray one side and let it sit for fifteen minutes, and then remove the body, flip it over and slide it back under and spray the back.
It works really well, costs nothing and takes about a minute to setup! Just make sure that the blocks are clamped down REALLY well.

I just leave my guitar in the case while I paint - painting's hard enough without having to hold on to a guitar simultaneously. Especially if I'm using a ladder.....oh, I see - you mean painting the guitar - nevermind.

I just used a stick with a coat hook on the end. Hold the stick, spray the edges then the back. Set the gun down. Roll the stick in your hand then spray the front. I spray in front of a 500 watt light this allows me to see the finish going on.
Then I hook it from..... a ski pole (Canadian's always have a few of them around ) that I nailed across a closet in my spray room. I should have tried that mic stand. There are two sitting in the shop. |

If front of the garage doors. That was my old house, but my new one is the same situation. I don't need no stinkin' garage. I need a SHOP !!!

I knew I could count on you folks to show me a plethora ( 50 cent word of the day ) of ways to hold the guitar.
Shoretyus, since I'm in Florida, there is a shortage of ski poles here, but thanks for that idea. Dep |
