Would this be stupid?

Had a weird idea for a neck. I've got some 4/4 bloodwood that would probably make a great neck all by itself but then I stumbled onto some cutoffs from some outrageous quilted maple that I capped a body with (there's a post on it somewhere). I got to thinking about capping the bloodwood with an oiled quilted maple fingerboard. Wouldn't need any other finish. What do you think? Haven't seen it done but might be unique.

Looks like it could be a nice blend .

Is the maple thick enough to carry a radius ?

How heavy is that blood wood? Is it dense enough to support string tension?

I'd put the density of the bloodwood close to ebony - it is REAL heavy. The maple is a little less than 1/4" - it should radius OK.

I just checked - ebony is 68 lb/cu ft and bloodwood is 63. Hard maple is 39.

Solid bloodwood with a maple cap?

How about a Tele headstock but a Strat heel? Solid bloodwood will leave a Tele neck heavy and it would dive; but the different bout design on the Strat body shape might correct the problem. Adopt as little of the Strat design as you like.

Your only other option would be a 5 1/2 pound plus, maybe 6 pound tele body.
