Are '52 AVRI's Considered "Custom Shop" Guitars?

I bought a previously-owned 1991 Fender '52 AVRI last week, and I love it. Is it is considered a "custom shop" guitar? Either way, it won't change my opinion of the guitar, but I just want to be sure. I figured some of you would know. Also, where (specifically) would it have been manufactured?

Oh, and here it is:

No, it's not a Custom Shop guitar. It would have been made on the regular production line at Corona, California. The Custom shop is just next door.

See the link.

Nice guitar though!

The Fender Custom Shop has made '52 models, but those are different than the regular production American Vintage models--and are fairly recent, I believe. Your guitar would have been made at the main facility in Corona.

I think AV series is a close as you can come without actually being a CS guitar. They are some great offerings. The '52RI is my favorite.

No, not a Custom Shop guitar, but IMO the best non-Custom Shop Fender Telecaster available, looks like you got yourself a nice one!

Thanks for the solid info guys. I knew I could count on you to clear up that issue for me. I really love this guitar. It's a snappy player, and has great articulation in the high and low end (nice and boomy bass notes). I plugged it into my pro jr. and it made me like my amp much better. It's also been played for 18 years professionally for recording and gigs, so it has real world relicing going on.

The biggest surprise for me is that I like the vintage frets and the 7.5" radius. It's very comfortable for me and not as difficult to play on as I have heard. I may even prefer the frets to the 9.5" radius/medium jumbo on my 2006 MIM. This is the first time I don't have any guitar GAS. I am jonesing for a Dr. Z Z28 though. This thing really sings through those. I wouldn't be adverse to a BF or SF DR either.

Congrats, Roboscal, very nice acquisition.

I prefer to call what you have on your AV 52 "wear".

A much more exalted word in my vocabulary than "reliced".

I understand your "GAS" comments insofar as guitars go. Not much of anyplace left to go after you get a real nice guitar like that.

Enjoy,

Thanks man. I'm pretty stoked about it. And, it really is "wear" on this one. Regarding my GAS, since I know that the amp is a critical portion of tone equation, I want to get something that will do a nice Tele justice. I'm looking for chime that will fairly easily heat up into good old classic rock grit, with detailed articulation. I'm pretty confident that I can get there with a Dr. Z or a SF/BF DR. I am on the lookout.
