Radio documentary on Telecaster in Netherlands - plus JAM
To anyone interested - I read this in a Dutch newspaper today. Here's the translation:
NEW YORK/HILVERSUM – The Dutch radio journalist and guitar player Botte Jellema has played the guitar of singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley in New York. He tracked down the legendary instrument when he was researching on behalf of [Dutch broadcasting organisation] VPRO for a documentary on the Telecaster, a famous guitar brand that was played by Jeff Buckley, among others. Jellema was the first since the demise of Jeff Buckley in 1997 who was allowed by his [Buckley’s] manager to play the guitar. The Dutch guitarist played two songs on the instrument. His report can be heard on radio on Thursday evening, in a documentary on Radio 6. Although Buckley died when he was only 30, his influence on guitar music was considerable. His only album, ‘Grace’ from 1994, is still being seen as a reference point in musical history. Connoisseurs among music fans praised the album, but his autonomous style prevented a breakthrough to a larger audience. While recording his second album, he drowned while swimming in a river in Memphis. “His guitar was really very determinative for his sound,” says Jellema passionately. “It felt very strange to hold this rock’n’roll relic, which has been seen by the whole world, in my hands.” The instrument is really battered and dinged. “But you feel that it has really something to it. It sounded really different from my own Telecaster. Buckley had had the guitar totally set up to his own wishes.” The manager often gets this kind of requests, but usually denies them. She gave Jellema access to the instrument because it was for a radio documentary. “That’s far less fuss than having a large TV crew around.” (ANP) http://www.parool.nl/nieuws/2008/MEI/03/p2.html I don't listen to radio, but if anyone listens, please tell me if it was interesting. And if anything was said about this plan to do a documentary on the Telecaster ... Last edited by undafonk : May 6th, 2008 at 02:37 PM. |

Yup!
Ah, that's right, the summer jam!
Preferably sometime after my trip abroad, so after June 24th. And, besides from the place in Utrecht, we could also use the large hall in my office in Rotterdam again. It is 22 by 24 meters, secluded enough so that we can make a lot of noise, plus, if the weather is nice, we could barbecue afterwards. After doing the place up, it looks like this (two snaps I took this afternoon) ![]() ![]() Let's start a new thread, maybe? |

Ah, the usual suspects!
Thats good, I was thinking about starting a thread up myself.
Depending on vacation, I would like to be there :-) including bbq and all. I think Jaap (the drummer) will join again as well, I'll ask. So want to set a date for this..... Vincent PS are we starting the volume discussion now or do we wait another couple of weeks PPS I'm on vacation 19-7 till 17-8

welcome back everybody!
Angelo - thanks for having us over on Queen's Day, we had a great time. Vincent - it wouldn't be a proper TDPRI-NL jam without you and Jaap the Drummer. So we will try to plan it so that y'all can be there. Eddie - 3 October is pretty late for a Summer jam in Holland; in California that would be great, but it will probably be snowing here in October... Saturday morning I will try to start a new thread about this; maybe I will do a group e-mail first, since I have all the addresses. Setting the date will be difficult, because we will have to work around everyone's vacation plans. But we can do it! And... no sense doing the "volume discussion"... we all know about it, but it's just too much fun playing all those guitars and amps! I think it might be a good idea to work up an actual play-list this time; last time we had a play-book, but it was still pretty confused and crazy. |

Take a wild guess...
Seriously, though, any weekend in June would be good for me. I had so much fun last time, I'll organise myself in order to not miss the next one!
