My dream come true!

I've been looking and waiting for a 52' RI for many many months and finaly got one last thursday! My first ever tele! I can't believe how good it is to play her. Everything is just perfect!! The sound, the feel! But I have to get used to maple neck ... I find it to be a bit sticky. Anyway, for the price I paid, I should not complain. I bought it second hand for 1300 in a music shop 1 hours away from my city. That price might seems a bit high for a used one but it's mint! pristine! or whatever you want! There is no, and I say no scratch of any kind on the guitar. It came from an old man who barely played her then exchanged it for a more expensive Nocaster. I find myself very lucky to have found her. They had recieved that tele the day I called, the timing was just perfect. I'm so glad that I feel like dreaming. It's hard to believe you know... I'm sure some of you ever felt like this, if you ever loved a guitar ;-)

I felt just like you when I got my '52 RI three years ago. Today I love it even more (and the stickyness is all gone) .

Congrats on a marvellous instrument ..... And yeah - pictures are obligatory

Yeah, get it off that stand right away or you'll find that the lacquer finish will develop a defect where it was in contact with the rubber tubing. You can use any sort of natural cotton material to cover the rubber tubing and should be fine. Today I went to my local music shop and bought a little package containing a "Stand Bra". It's not as sexy as it sounds, but it's basically a cushy condom that goes over the rubber tubing and protects the nitrocellulose finish. I paid less than $10 for a (made in USA) package that will cover a stand like yours, including the body- and neck rest sections. A small investment for such a beautiful instrument.

And what an insult! I just looked up the company that made the set I bought today, and I see that they are having a promotion that would have made my purchase less expensive. Oh well, I supported local business. Anyway, what I got was made by Wrightway Music Products: http://www.wrightwaymusicproducts.com/products.cfm

Congratulations!

Thanks guys for the info! The guitar will stay is her case until I buy me a new stand. The Stand Bra seems interesting, but I doubt they ship in Canada.

Enjoy your 52 reissue! I really like mine, too. They have one of the most "honest" sounds for electric, a real "you get out of it what you put into it" sound. Well, I'm sure you know by now.

This guitar is just incredible! BTW, two of you, telemarkman and bluesjuke, told me that the stickyness will go with time. Is it the same for every maple neck? Is it friction that removes whats make it sticky? I'm not used to maple neck, I always had rosewood ones.

Thanks

The nitrocellulose is still curing. During this process it reacts differently with different people's skin chemistry (does it get stickier as you play?). Do a little searching here and you will see that some people have temporary solutions.

In about 3 months there should be no issues, and the more you have it out and are playing it, the faster it goes. When it is done, you will be very pleased with the feel. I love it, even my LP has a maple neck.

Yes this happens on most nitro guitars, the process is sped up if you leave it out of the case all the time on a nitro-safe stand.

blacklinefish and hamish5178 are correct as far as my experience go.

It may take less time or longer though, depending on personal chemistry and how much you play it.

Maple necks with a poly top coat don't have the stickyness that a nitro finished neck has.

Hot breath and a polishing cloth every once in a while and when you're done playing will help meanwhile too.

Congrats on your new '52 ri. I also just got a used one this past week, and I have fallen in love with it. To my taste, a blackguard is the quintessential Telecaster, and the '52 ri's allow us to have one for a reasonable price. For the past few days, one of the first things I do when I wake up in the morning is to open the case and just look at it. We all seem to share that common sickness.

Good luck with it, and enjoy it!

This guitar is a real lady! Do this with her, do that too, don't do it, try this thing, not this one, it takes time, hehehe! I guess it helps me understand why I do love her that much ;-)

Thank you again eveyone!

I don't like a sticky neck either. I usually pop the neck, break out the 0000 Steel Wool, and go after the back of the neck until it's smooth.

Make sure you don't do this if the neck is on the guitar. You don't want steel wool dust getting in your pickups.
