I dig the GE. I have not seen it in black yet. I remember from the video where he says that if we bug 'em enough maybe they'll make one. I guess people bugged 'em.

I gotta Blonde and absolutely love the thang! I've owned over 60 or so guitars through the years and I can honestly state that this G.E. Smith is my favorite of all time. I guess it's just the right combination of everything I like from the ash body, fencepost neck, thick tones, nitro finish...I'm there!

Officially, it's not in black. That's why we can't find a photo.

Hello,
Thanks for writing in. Right now, that guitar is only offered in
Dakota Red and Honey Blonde. We probably made some guitars for his
personal collection, but the production line only has the 2 colors. If
anything changes, we will post the information online at www.fender.com.
We hope this information will help you out.

Best Regards,

Thanks for the update, doster. It's neat, though, that they might have made some in black for GE.

This is pretty amusing. I'm not at home right now but I swear that my 2008 Fender Dealer Frontline shows black as an available option for the GE Smith Tele this year. FWIW I love my blond GE.

I've downloaded the Catalog - on Page 36 - it clearly gives the description and part number for a Black one - part number 011-8202-806 - Maple Fretboard, Black.

Use the drop-down for the color selection...

Great detective work, it seems the elusive black G.E. Smith might actually exist, but who will be the first to post a photo?
I was slow to pull the trigger on a G.E. "Blem" last week from Musician's Friend for $1100, I wish I just would of bought it.
I hope someone here got it.

If you want one you should keep checking. It seems that MF has a blem GE for that price every month or so.

One of those Sweetwater guys told me "black G.E." to be available in July when I asked him. He asked me if I wanted to order one. I told him "black G.E." is going in my fuel tank. Maybe someday, though.

Telehakster, thanks for the tip. If I could get one for around $1100 I would be happy, but wife will be ticked. I will keep checking and you only live once...right!
It's funny how you just get obsessed with a guitar.

The saga continues

I just checked with our marketing team, and they said we are just
starting to build those guitars. It was printed in our catalog because
they were meant to be released at a later date. We will be updating the
website soon.

Checked with the marketing team? Nah: he just read this thread and saw teleon's and ajgus's posts.

More seriously, it's good to know that these are going into production, but I am going to have hard sell convincing my wife why I should buy another GE Tele. I wonder if the black ones will debut at summer NAMM.

Thanks for the info, doster; and you should indeed keep checking for a deal. These are excellent guitars.

Yeah, it bugs me when they don't post pics of all of the color options.
