2008 Maple fretboard gloss

Hello all - - a newbie here with a question.

I posted the below in the wrong thread yesterday I believe:

I'm wondering about the new gloss finish on the 2008 American Standard maple fretboards. I've played what I guess are satin-finished maple boards before (on a G&L Legacy Tribute), and do like the feel of these gloss boards (tried one in the store the other day).

Just trying to figure out the precedent here: most Fender maple boards have been satin-finished for a few years, is that right? Is this new gloss comparable to earlier model Teles? (any vintage photos I've come across have worn fretboards, as expected, so I'm unsure. I've also read that it's common to remove the gloss with steel wool ...).

Thanks for the help guys.

The American Standard/Series Teles used to have a satin finish neck. From 2008 they changed to a gloss finish.

The HWY 1 Teles have always had a satin finish, both neck and body.

The vintage reissues - both the American Vintage series and the MIM classics have always had a gloss finish, both neck and body.

I'm not really sure what you're asking, but I'll tell you that anyone who removes the gloss on one of the new American Standards should have his head examined! The new necks feel awesome.

Thanks guys. It was a roundabout question, but that's what I thought.

The plan is to trade in my 2006 Alder/rosewood MIA Tele for a new American Standard Natural Ash/Maple board (that I've sweated on a few times at local store recently ...) after work today!

I never could figure out why they took the gloss off the fretboard on
the Nashvilles and Deluxe models, while leaving the back glossy. I thought it had something to do with the fretting process. But, I do like the new AStd. neck. A lot.
