Gotta say goodbye to a good friend...

Today is a sad day... financial issues are forcing me to sell my '52 RI to a local buyer. I will miss her deeply. My '52 made me a better player and I love her, but I gotta do what I gotta do... maybe one day I'll own another.

The good news is I get to keep my brown sunburst American Series Tele, which I'm having some work done to (Fender noiseless pickups, fret dressing, mint green pickguard). Small consolation, although she's a great guitar in her own right.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Do you absolutely positively have to sell her?

Just remember..

to keep his name and phone number so if things ever turn around for you, you can always have first refusal to buy her back..!

That's a great idea. Sorry you have to do this. Times will get better, hopefully sooner rather than later, I feel for you my friend.

that's replaceable

Your '52 is a replaceable thing: just wait some better days, and you'll be able to buy a new identical one (maybe even better, who knows?). The AmStrd you modified to your taste is a great customized axe, a real unicum. You still have a great instrument in your hands, play it loud!

I had to sell a guitar, (the same guitar as you) last year to make a mortgage payment. I consider the guitar for my family's house a pretty good trade.

I have empathy for you, and know that you will feel very comfortable with your decision in the long run.

Thanks So Much!

Times will get better. On the up side, I get my American Tele back on Friday, and I hear she's playing like butta (fret dressing). I'm looking forward to getting her home.

The good news is that you have to sell a reissue. Wouldn't it hurt much more if you were forced to sell a real vintage piece?

Last year I was really bad off,I had a few BIG bills past due.
I had 8 guitars at the time(no Teles),I sold all but 2.Now,I'm two Teles up,and my feet are on the body (flicking the 4-way switch)that MJtelecaster will be turning into #3(a '52 Relic).
I've had to sell almost every guitar I've had at one point,or traded it for one I thought was cooler, untill I started with Teles.
The only one that has been with me since I was 16 is my Great Grandpa's '53 Gibson LG acoustic.
Sometime you have do what you have to do,but the point I guess I'm making is that it gets better, and then you can find yourself another guitar that will change your life again.
When I came back from financial trouble, the Tele was there, and it changed everything.
Good luck!

Nothing is better than a good fret dressing, You'll enjoy a nice, brand new guitar. When I got back mine in June, I couldn't believe my ears (hands), it was hard to believe that it was the same guitar I gave the luthier a few weeks before. Have fun!

Re: Gotta say goodbye to a good friend...

25 years ago I had to sell my Rick 4001 bass for money reasons and I just quit playing, well about 1 year ago I started to play again but this time not the bass, well now I have a custom built tele, I should have done this much sooner but beetter late than never.
