I had a nice nocaster and foolishly sold it..Now I really miss it..From what I've read it seems as though the baja comes close..We'll see...Also I can't justify the price of a nocaster...Neither can the wife...

I suppose it depends upon your definition of "close". I love my Baja and think you will too, but my Nocasters are quite a bit different, especially the necks.

I want one of those in the blonde. Had the chance to pick up one In desert sand on the cheap & I let it pass me by. Still kicking myself.

I'm saying close based on what I've heard..I've heard people say that the 52 re-issue's neck was thick like a nocaster and it was in no way thick to me..

From the pics that I've seen, I think that I'd like the blonde better but I couldn't find one. The local GC has/had three in desert sand. I finally found a desert on the local CL and picked it up pretty cheap. I figure that I can throw it back if I come across a blonde one. So far, I'm pretty happy with it.

I received my baja ( in blonde) yesterday and it arrived in immaculate condition from Elderly..I played it all day and I reveled in it's tone and playability...
I've owned a very nice 'nocaster and I have to say that in my opinion the 'nocaster is not worth 2000 more than the baja..Maybe I don't or can't see the difference..But this is my first mexican guitar and quite frankly I think that it is surperb...

None taken....This is why I said that "maybe I can't see the difference"..
My 'nocaster was excellent but honestly,I can't say that it was 2000 better..My Baja in terms of feel and tone, I'm in love...

Congrats! I received my blonde Baja Thursday afternoon and then had to leave on a weekend trip to Chicago first thing Friday morning - so I was very anxious to get back to it. Just put on my strings and Glendale saddles. Perfect.

My answer depends on which guitar I'm playing.

I want one of these...
I tried two of them out - one sand and one blonde. The blonde was a lot lighter than the desert sand one. I told the store guy that I prefered he lighter one (and I also like that color better). The thing is, both guitars were on sale on his website, but when I had played them both and told him which one I liked best, the price of the blonde one had mysteriously increased to list price... They were both MZ7... I tried another desert sand which was also really heavy and overpriced. Then, in yet another store, I tried a MZ6 desert sand which I believe had a better sound (but I used a different amp) but it was making a lot of noice when i used the switch and the S1 button... Guess I'll have to try a couple more. |

riolux...I bought mine from Elderly inst. and I couldn't be happier..Shipping was free and the guitar arrived in surperb condition...I've own a 'nocaster which was very good and I can honestly say that had I tried the baja at the time I would have passed on the 'nocaster..The baja in my opinion is Fender's best kept secret...

Sorry....can't relinquish my love for my CS Nocaster Relic! I have tried the Baja a few years back but obviously it had been hanging too long in the shop because it felt terrible. Bad set-up, old strings, and the neck pup which everyone raves about sounded lousy! This is why this tele-buying thing is so subjective; I am sure that those that espouse the many virtues of the Baja have instruments that play and sound great but my experience made me look elsewhere!

Thaus..I hear you..And I agree..My baja plays and sounds great, but so did my 'nocaster which i later regretted selling..It was also lightly reliced, which I rarely see..Most of them are quite severe..
