anyone tried something like this? ('51 content)

so, I was thinking. I'd like a strat, just because. I've alway liked teles. the main thing I like about strats is the comfortable body shape and the neck pickup.

then I realized. I already have a stock Squier '51! why not combine what I like best about each into one guitar?

so, here is what I came up with:

build list will be:
stock '51
Wilkinson compensated tele bridge
GFS "texas" strat pups
GFS alnico tele pup (probably)
warmoth strat pickguard with neck and middle pup routs and vol and switch only
new pots and switch.
elbow grease and string ferrules for the back.

I think that's it.

what do you guys think? good idea?

I've though about doing something like that. Minus the Tele control panel, just two tele knobs on the pg & a Tele bridge. Could be cool...

well, I'd love to get rid of the control panel, but it's already routed for it, and I don't feel like filling and matching paint...

Mine's close... Kept the stock '51 pickguard, and just swapped the neck pickup for a p-90. I'm still diggin it!

Can I still find one of those '51s anywhere? I'm so jealous of you guys when I see them.

www.musiciansfriend.com/clearance you may just have to get a phone number and call for today's availability. The '51 is a modders dream. Check their site too. Lots of great mods and ideas.
