i don't think you are asking too much

when i was your age i really got into the telecaster and i wanted to know everything i could about it, and about certain models that people modified

with the info you have here, you now already know more than most people will ever need to know about telecasters

i have a friend who got a black logo tele, which could have been '67 or '68 at the earliest and he paid pre-cbs prices back in the day thinking it was a '62 or '63 ... he never did his research which would have told him a tele from that far back, in '62-63, would never have a black fender logo

to this day he still thinks his telecaster is pre-cbs and that's ok with him but he would make a fool of himself if he ever tried to pass it off as such on ebay

BTW: I am contemplating to buy a tube amp (actually I have only solid state amps). I like the sound with a tele when the amp just slightly breaks up, just like in the dylan video I posted before. I play small to medium clubs, jazz, soul, things like that.
I thought about the 65 deluxe reverb reissue. Is that a good choice?

Maybe Robbie "himself" wil pop up "out of the blue" and advise you to get a Marshall

I haven't tried the 65 Deluxe Reverb RI myself, but it sounds like it might be a good choice.

My Blues Deluxe RI can do it without TOO much volume.

The "vintage overdrive" channel on my Vox VR30 sounds great also. Like my old Vox AC30 on full, only with much less volume. Great for smaller clubs!

Sorry, I haven't played too many different amps in the last 30 years or so ...

If you're not miking the amp through a PA system, you might find that the Deluxe is not quite loud enough in some of these situations. You might want to also check out the Super Reverb reissue, the Custom Vibrolux or the Supersonic.

You are in the wrong forum.

Perhaps, but the comment was the perfect punch line for this thread.

Hi Robby!! After 25 years of trying to get your tone I think Im close. I took my 68 Tele and hacked it up like yours, stuck in the neck hum. I tried it on my 52, but these newer guitars sound so much better. I need some help with the last piece of the puzzle, Do you wear boxers or briefs????

I'm guessing none-that tough, stinging tone has to come from somewhere....
