'52 RI ID???
I think I might have been taken. I bought a used '52 RI, and it came in the black tolex case---properly broken in, but NOT tweed. No case candy, either, but no big deal---It's got the 3-saddle bridge, which I would have wanted, anyway. 5 digit serial number in the bridge plate, stil OK.But the neck pocket is stamped MAY 25 2 06. Another stamp says F18354. Another stamp, in red, says ____2000. And then STAMPED (deep) in the neck pocket, is a large #3, and a VERY large "V." All in the neck pocket. The neck itself has one piece of paper, with a bar code, and the numbers 0053779-980. Another labelsays JUL 15 2000. There's a weird mark on it, could be a "9," or the letter "G." the initials A.G are on the label, as is the name "Chavez." Then stamped on the neck is the name "F. Perez." There is some writing on the end of the neck, below the truss rod bolt, but it's too faint to read. Can somebody help me fill in some blanks, here? Great guitar, light weight, sounds good---But WHAT IN THE WORLD IS IT???
Thanks in advance! |

I'm sure you are correct, of course, Dr. Davis, but why would the neck pocket be stamped "MAY 25 2 06"???
Just curious.....

I had a similar panic a few months ago! Rest assured, you have a 52RI. The Fender part number for a 52RI body is 18354, which you have found stamped correctly in the neck pocket. Check also that the decal on the headstock is visibly "over" the finish, and that all the screws (I mean ALL of them) are slot heads. A final check is to look in the rout under the neck pickup. Will probably, (but not definitely) have a sticker with a barcode in it, and some digits, which will include the "18354" string somewhere, which will double check the authenticity. If its a 2006, the five digit number on the bridgeplate is likely to begin with a 5.
Pretty sure you have the real deal, - enjoy it! Rick J

I agree 5 is the most likely starting number on a 2006. My opinion is that bridge plate serial numbers are not consistent, as though the assemblers are dipping into a big bin or something. I've got 4 that have the 5 digit number beginning in 5, but 2 others begin in 2, all 2006s.

I thought it was a 2000 because 2000 is written twice and the may 25 2 06 doesnt really say 2006 it could have been the 6th one made on May 25th 2000. You usually dont see dates of 2000 on the neck and the guitar is a 2006 there is sometimes 1 year of overlap but not 6.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease, guys. It's a killer git-tar! The neck pup sounds like an old jazz box, and the bridge sounds twangy, but not ice-pick trebly. And it weighs almost 7 lbs. on my bathroom scales! I'm a happy boy!
