Possible Schaller sub for subpar MIM 69-72 Tuners?
http://guitar-machine-heads.com/uplo...3/95___ST6.jpg
Anyone know where to find these tuners in the U.S.A., and are they a direct bolt on replacement for the tuners on the MIM Reissues of the 69-72 Thinlines, Tele Customs and Tele Deluxes? Muchas Gracias,

i wouldn't bother with them, since they're the same tuners you're looking to replace. schaller makes the fender F tuners for the MIM reissues, and these tuners you've posted here are the same thing only in schaller's own casing. they'll fit into your headstock exactly as the F tuners would, without modification, but i wouldn't count on them having any real difference in functionality.

Im not sure whats up with those Schaller F tuners on reissues.
I bought a 72 Tele Deluxe and one of the safety posts was crushed together at the top. So of course it broke when I tried to open it up. I bought a new set from Stratosphere and they were a little differant. The new set was stamped made in Germany, had taller posts, larger holes for the string, had no kink in the copper retainer plate, and worked much better. Even the chrome was a slightly differant color and the F stamped in back was clearer. It made me wonder has Fender been using cheaper knock offs of the origonal Schaller? If you have a set that is stamped inside there shouldnt be a reason to change. But if they seem to be the lesser version, those tuners in question may be a decent upgrade and still keeps a semi stock look. |

I'm not sure the set I have was a real good batch, plus there's a good bit of wear on them, I would guess, based on fretwear. 1999 guitar. $ 78.00! Right now the selfsame guitar has a real fine replacement neck, nut and tuners, a right around $ 200 all totaled, which is looking more and more like a better choice than a fret level of some tired vintage frets or, more likely, a total refret. Thanks to all for the many great replies.

i'm not so certain what you want, but i just replaced the F tuners on my MIM reissue with gotoh kluson types, which i think are great tuners and certainly far better than the stock F's. i was able to pay for the gotoh's entirely with the money i got from selling the F tuners on ebay, and the installation only cost $12 from a good tech. that's the way i'd go if i were looking to replace a set of F tuners...
