Glam Rock teles?
Both Vince and Mic have what look like teles. I hope this isn't embarrassing for anyone...

Mars plays a Tele-shaped guitar with an angled-like-EddieVH humbucker bridge PU and a Floyd. The guitar retains the shape. I've seen a company (Warmoth?) that calls it the "Girls! Girls! Girls!" setup and has it as a regular order. I did like the all-mirrored front. Nice for a stage guitar.

Yes, both Mick Mars and Vince Neil have used Tele shaped guitars that were custom made by Kramer. I think the video Kickstart My Heart features a Tele-Kramer that is fully mirrored. Also, I believe CC Deville had a Tele shaped guitar that was either a Kramer or BC Rich. Scott Ian of Anthrax used to use a Tele-shaped ESP guitar in the early days of Anthrax. Teles have been in metal here and there for years...

I remember a metal band from the early 80s using a tele.
Anyone remember Vardis, whos singer not only used a basic tele to play NWOBHM but came on stage each gig barefoot and complained of getting splinters!!! Seem to remember that they, like all of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) claimed NOT to be Heavy Metal!!!! But he used a Tele, so maybe a bit of redemption is due. |

Glam rock... I got confused. I call all of that '80s stuff "Hair Metal."
I call The New York Dolls and David Bowie "Glam Rock"... and in that case, Bowie's old guitarplayer Mick Ronson used a Tele quite often. Mick was a killer guitarplayer! |

Yeah, I don't consider Anthrax to be glam. I consider Gene Loves Jezebel to be glam

I never meant that Anthrax was glam metal, I was just saying that another example of a Tele in metal is Anthrax, as in my message I say "teles have been here and there in metal for years", meaning all kinds of metal, including glam/hair metal and thrash metal. So is everybody clear on why I mentioned Anthras now?

You must excuse me for using glam over hair. I wasn't around when all this "good" music was coming out... Yea thats right, its a burn on you old guys...
all kidding aside I learn tons from this site, and the fact that some of my favourite bands are playing teles or t-shapes make it that much better. Now can someone find me a picture or video of Paul or Ace using a tele, or Gene using a tele bass?

i still love old anthrax before they kicked out joey, but the other crap they made with that other guy was not so good. joey lives 10 minutes from me and has a studio set up there.

They've been making Teles for a long time, and others have been copying them for almost as long. Fender made the HM (Heavy Metal) Tele for a while and I think they rock in that cheesy 80s way that I'm not ashamed to say still makes me feel 15 again. |

Hi All,
For very many years I stuck my nose up at glam, it just wasn't something I even gave a chance to. It could be linked to being bullied as a child because I liked to read adult books and listen to adult music lol... I was al;ready being teased enough lol.. One day not to long ago I heard A space Oddity by Bowie and I just thought how cool is that song and guitar tone. I found it's not about getting all serious and political, more about fun and taking the piss as they say here in the U.K. (having a laugh, get the old folks backs up freddie |

for me when john bush joined the band, it sounded too much to me like they were selling out and going more grunge just like every other so called metal band from that period(ie "metallica"), i guess its not crap as i said, but it wasnt as enjoyable for me as their earlier albums were. i guess it was too much of a drastic change for me to accept. i guess you could say it was the "80's" stylings that really made me enjoy them with joey in the band. i grew up in the 80's so alot of the bands from that decade i listened to and enjoyed alot.

I was into the Glam scene of the 80s. It was only referred to as Hair Metal in later years. At the time it was Glam / Sleaze. I remember the guy from the Sea Hags had a tele. The more Stonesy side of the Glam scene would dabble with teles - Izzy Stradlin from Guns N Roses was the Stones influenced one so he had a HM tele! All very silly really. I remember Mick Mars talking about how he was "just a blues guy really" & then every other guitarist saying the same. I don't remember Buddy Guy backcombing his hair and wearing stack boots! In the UK we had the Dogs D'Amour (Jo Dog was a very occasional tele player) and the Quireboys who also dabbled with teles. In fact now the Quireboys have reformed Guy Griffin often has tele style guitars & was using a 60s Fender tele for a while. Then of course you had Blackeyed Susan who's Dizzy Dean Davidson played a tele. He was ex-Britny Fox. Ahem, signs of a mis-spent youth here!
From the original Glam era I am suprised that nobody mentioned Noddy Holder's black tele. The guitar sure gets about! My creditionals for being a "Hair Metal expert"? I submit the following picture of me "back in the day" so to speak... It's an old gig flyer & I am on the right
