The OSBcaster-Redux

As I explained in the other thread, the transition from the OSB top to the fir,on the original just didn't do it for me.To much of a drastic change.I will get some different dye, stain, shellac or whatever and try something different when I get to the city.
However I really liked the way the top looks(ya I'm sick,I know) and wanted to improve on the original.I thought of doing an ash back, lighter, would look better. Then I decided if I am going to do this,go all the way.Only problem is OSB has very little screw holding strength and I wanted this to actually be able to be finished and played. If nothing else it should get some comments.I never expected the original thread to get so much action. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.Keep them coming because now we have to get it figured out for the OSBcaster Redux!!!
From the front it looks pretty much the same(other than more highly figured OSB )

But now from the side, much better

Also we now have a matching back

To give it some strength to hold the neck, bridge etc,I laminated a piece of ash inside that runs the length of the body

The neck will sit directly on the ash

Looks like you're using your "Prime-Select Grade" OSB for the top on this one.

Much better, mate! Some long bridge screws and a long front strap lug screw and it'll be crankin'. Or maybe drill a big hole and glue in a broomstick-sized dowel...

Sound clip mandatory.

This for the pickguard!

Now that's the ticket!!! Much better then the first one!

I vote for a varnished burlap pickguard. Stays with the color scheme!

PS...Oh yea..You have to leave the word potato or whatever was in the burlap sack showing!!

I do, too. This one looks 'unified' and somehow looks much cooler.

Another pickguard choice. Old piece of 'real' 30 weight tarpaper, coated to seal in the asphalt.

Marty, this is way cool. It's really coming together from your original R&D on the XP-OSB model.

Now, however, this guitar begs the question: How much would any of us pay for one of these over the counter. Not copying Marty's innovative research and development by rolling one of our own like it, but in a retail setting. How much is it worth? I know we need to hear it, but since it's really pups and amps that make the sound, according to several here..... What would you pay to own this beauty(and I mean that it IS beautiful, albeit in a very sick way)?

Don't be shy, make a bid. And I know it's not for sale. Nor is this an offer for sale or brokerage of same, by anyone here. Just as an interrogatory of curiosity.

BTW Marty, have you put this on a scale yet?

Hey Marty,,, the ash is a very good idea!
It would be a shame to hide that killer figured body with a pick guard but I have to admit that in staying with the "construction" grade materials it would be cool to build a pick guard out of a sealed tar paper and attach it with a staple gun.

I may also be cool to build another body and finish it with a spray on Rhino-Lining like they use on truck beds eh? It comes in Red, Green, Blue, Black, and Grey,,,

I say whatever kind of guard you use should be nailed in.

Make sure it's 30 lb. roofing felt. Maybe install it with big head roofing nails.

With the right hardware, I could easily see it going for $700 to $1500 from a mass producer.

From a boo-teek manufacturer, twice that?

Well the next one may need to go thinline .
Probably 10-11#s in final form. Not any heavier than the average LP...
I could live with it. I'd just make an extra wide strap, outta the ole lady's spandex pants... keeping with this guitar's theme. 'cept it'd have to be somebody else's ole lady's spandex; as I don't have one(whew)... wait this is a trailer caster theme, isn't it? i'm ok then.

LMAO!

So due to the likely final weight, she'll be the DoubleWideCaster?

How about calling it the Doublewide? That would be a cool name.
