I'd guess that a cedar bodied guitar should be very light and have a very open bright (maybe even shrill) tone, given the nature of cedar being a very light and open grained timber.
But it is only a guess as I've never seen a solid bodied guitar made from cedar. So my comments are only based on what I've seen of cedar in other forms; I could be completely wrong! |

one piece body
Here's a one piece Western Red Cedar Burl body that I'm building to donate to the Back2Blues Fest in Chilliwack BC this year. http://www.back2blues.com,,,Happens on the last weekend of July.
I'm using a GFS Fat Boy in the bridge position and a GFS Mini-Humbucker in the neck position with a push/pull coil tap.. I gave it a dry run before starting on the finish and it sounds awsome but the wood dents easily. You also have to be really careful with the grain on a Cedar body as it can easily split if you're not careful, thats one reason that I used the burl rather than the lumber.

Epoxy could be a little to brittle, I used Fullerplast,, it helps.

Hey Marty, I've been waiting to see your Cedar Tele finished. The binding is a good way to protect the edges and looks great with the tan and gold tones of the cedar,, really nice man.

If I remember correctly it can get pretty warm in Chico,,, depending on the cut of the board and where you get it from Cedar could split pretty easily in the heat. I hope you'll post pictures of this guitar.
