I've been more active on The Gear Page lately but wanted to post a couple of my latest builds here ( mostly for Gear Page members ).. I'm doing these semi-full time now and am having a blast !! But seeing as the tele is my first love, I thought it only right to post a couple pics on the good old TDPRI !!!

thanks for looking !!

yeah - faded sonic blue !!

Last year I sorta abandoned ReRanch and started mixing my own colors - so now I can do a FADED sonic blue - or a FADED Fiesta Red (like I did this morning ) - it's really fun and liberating. It also feels more "artistically" pleasing to be mixing your own lacquers too !!

fun fun fun

thanks for looking

Hey they look great, I'd love to hear how you mix your own classic fender colors!

without looking at them side by side - they look pretty similar. But Daphne is slighter darker than Sonic

But in 2008, when we see these colors on vintage guitars, they have almost always faded lighter - or green'd up from the top coat yellowing, etc.. think about how many different "blondes" there are !!

As far as mixing my own colors - a great friend of mine paints with me. He paints cars professionally and has been mixing colors - by eye - for almost 20 yrs. So thats what we are doing - mixing by eye - from pictures, from actual guitars I'll bring in , or from test cards we shot when we had reranch

we usually get the color correct - as it left the factory - and then alter it from there to approximate fading, etc..

But everything is Nitro - from the sand n sealer up - and very thin !!

well.. we have all the various pigments so it depends on the color we are going for

But we buy our lacquer in gallons of both Waterwhite Clear - as well as WHITE lacquer- so we dont have to add a tone of white pigment if it's a light color

as long as you have good equipment and great lighting - it's not that hard. But you DO have to know what you are going for - it's easy to lose perspective

I've never been a huge fan of the Sonic Blues & Seafoamy type finishes, but lately those combined w/ rosewood board are just looking so good to me. Major GAS attack. Nice work, my friend!

VERY Nice , Inca !!

here's a superlight swamp ash / maple neck tele

sold on TGP in about 30 minutes !!

I am sorta regretting not keeping it as a shop guitar. A bunch of Nashville cats have played it over the last several days and it definitely has a sorta magic in it. I'm starting another build identical to it to KEEP for myself
