Not seen that video before, thanks. He does this song on the un and/or plugged album, the guitar playing on that version is great.

Bruce abuses his tele every time he plays a solo.

His lead playing is horrible in my never-to-be-humble opinion.

Well, I kinda agree. Not my favorite guitar player of all time.
Great songwriter. So-so guitar player.

And take this for what it is, but one Jerseyite told me that years back no one wanted Bruce as the lead guitar player for their band. So, he had no choice but to form his own band.

I'm not a huge Bruce fan, but I thought his playing was pretty good on this, considering he's going toe to toe with James Burton:

Credit where credit due...

How many guitarists does it take to change a light bulb?

Noone probably wanted that "Jerseyite" to be in thier band at all.

Bruce is the biggest rocker in the world right now. I'm glad he doesn't wank in his recordings like a lot of other guys do.

Guess you didn't get schooled by Disney films.
Thumper is the rabbit in Bambi whose mother told him (paraphrasing here): "If you don't have something nice to say about somebody, don't say anything at all." Kind of like an early version of "Don't hate."

For example, Dude A posts an observation about someone he likes (i.e. Springsteen), whereupon Dude B immediately hijacks the thread into "He Sucks" territory. To what end? In need of attention? Too much free time? Or simply it's some stilted adolescent need to see what kind of s@%t-storm Dude B can stir up. Then comes the inevitable dogpile from both sides. I suppose it's human nature, exacerbated by cyber "anonymity," that promotes this kind of thread. Really, the Dude B's of the world should spend more time practicing their instruments and less time pissin' on other people's posts.

And I say that as a Jerseyite.

Just a little history lesson. Springsteen as a guitar player is certainly a matter of opinion and debate. My experience has been he's a lot better than typically given credit for and I have seen and heard him sometimes being sloppy, average, but many times brilliant, inspiring and surprisingly versatile. As far as starting his own band because no one wanted him as a lead player...just not true. Before the E-Street Band, etc, Bruce had a reputation on the Jersey Shore music scene as "the hottest gunslinger in town" ie the hottest lead player. Had hair down to his shoulders and played a Gibson Les Paul Standard Gold top w/ P-90's most likely through a Marshall. Check out any Steel Mill bootlegs and you'll find an almost totally different style of playing (more like Dickie Betts) with long fluid solos and lead lines. Springsteen actually made a conscious decision to concentrate more on song writing than being a hot shot lead player as he believed his playing, while being very good was not unique enough and too derivative of others for a successful/lucrative future in music. What Springsteen was bad at (as legend has it) was driving Which is pretty funny considering all the racing and car songs he's written.lol

Five: One to do it, and 4 to say that they liked it but would have done it a bit differently.

Believe it or not, there is a new incarnation of Steel Mill making the rounds these days with original drummer and ex E Streeter Vinnie "Mad Dog" Lopez back on drums. They even have a website. I'd go see them in a New Jersey minute if they would reunite with the original singer/lead guitarist and bass player...lol. Hey, how about a Sundance Blues Band or Castiles tribute band?
