Has anybody played a Jagmaster?

I'm still looking for another guitar to compliment my Tele, but so far, none have really grabbed me. I do seem to prefer the standard Fender feel to all others, but I want something different at the same time. The Jagmaster from Squier looks interesting, but I haven't found one in my area.

Any body have any experience with these?

Jagmaster

I don't haff all my pixs onna NET of the one I bought for my son James.

When they first came out I kinda liked them and the Jagstang waz out. I had played the Jagstang at stores and thought it waz quite sub-standard.

I went ahead and fetched this Red one from Magicians Fren.

It turned out tew be a purdy but not tew playable guitar for my son. Tuning prollems, balance, bullet truss rod, rosewood neck, big body, ruff neck, not very good P/Us and heavy were jes some of it's draw-backs.

Shown here inna corner of the TELE-Shack along with other un-favorites of mine it sits un-played and un-loved.

I later bought him the Warlock and he likes it a hoe bunch better.

..

I really think yew wood not be happy with one but again that's MHO.

I love the Vista series Jagmaster, made in Japan, but I don't really like the current ones, which I think are made in China. Looks like Fuzzy's is a Vista though. I've never met anyone who didn't like a Vista Squire, other then the Venus, and all they don't like about the Venus was it's looks. I find the Vistas to be great guitars. Try looking for Squire Super Sonics too, they're really unique.

Fuzzy, is that Mustang I see in guitars you don't like!?!?!? Ah! I love Mustangs!

Vista Series

I have one that looks a lot like the one in Fuzzy's pic. I got mine NOS a couple of years ago and like it very much. Mine could benefit from a good setup and better pickups but then, those are subjective. It has a good vibe, looks a little different--but very Fender and adds to the pallette. My only complaint is that I still need to get a case that will fit it since none of my "standard" ones will.

You should try searching ebay for a Jazzmaster case.

Thanks for the input guys

I always like to bounce my ideas off the group and see what the reactions are, as I trust and value the input of all of you.

And thanks Fuzzy for telling it like it is - your candor is a blessing in this politically correct world - sometimes a man just has to tell it like it is!

Thanks all....

Steve

Some variances

I might point out that mine is an "early" one with the non-bullet truss rod. Don't know when or why they made the switch. The neck on mine is nice and smooth all the way around. Pickups are kind of generic but that's easy to change. IMHO

Not sure if they're similar....

....but the Kurt Cobain model--was it the Jagstang?--was unplayable in my opinion. The scale is so short, tuning problems and such. Not a great guitar in my opinion, but I've never played the one you're asking about.
