No you shouldn't and I wasn't saying you should. Some stuff is just way out there in left field though, just uncalled for. And the other stuff, it should be discussed among the people in the forum, and the guitarists they are talking about shouldn't be tip toed around. BUT they won't stick around like you said. That's all I was trying to point out in this thread. You've simply recapped what I said already. People can and should say what they will and people will either get sick of reading negative things about themselves or maybe they won't, but they will either stay or go. That's life. I know that the internet has been around long enough now for celebs from all walks of entertainment to have learned that they can't be part of an internet community and not be asking for trouble. They just use myspace or their own websites to interact with people and some don't want to interact at all. To the people who gave me some suggestions about getting rid of the geese, thanks so much - great ideas. We had already thought of them all but had no feedback from other people as to whether they might be a waste of our time or actually get some results. It just seems too easy to get decoys but we are going to try that and see how it goes before we buy of those devices that emit high frequency noise to keep the geese away. |

Yea, wedding band is quite an antique concept these days. Wedding DJ is more contemporary. We've actually got a local Sinatra imitator who is a real hoot. I'm playing a "Hollywood theme" wedding this Saturday where he will do a set. Shoo be do be do.

If I were a star I would either keep my identity hid, and realize that there are jerks in every walk of life, or put on my thick skin, and let people know I'm here, and know that there are jerks in every walk of life. If I were affiliated with these people I wouldn't let myself be run off from here either, I mean people are gonna disagree with you and not like you. Having said that you can either laugh it off and ignore the people who don't like you or just get away from it. Remember though that for everyone that disagrees or dislikes you there are many more who do agree and like you. Even for nobodys like me there are threads that from the title or first post I know that there's no use in putting in the time to add my thoughts or opinions.

This issue stemmed from a simple misinterpretation of something I posted, and better communication settled the issue nicely. It happens, even face to face, and this limited context compounds the problems.
But, true. This is where folks speak their minds, and it should remain as such. IMO, consumers have equal right to both support and criticize celebrity performance. No consumer = no celeb. Not all comments are going to be constructive and empathetic, but how much communication is, in even the best context. The manner in which celebs deal with criticism is not the concern of the consumer, but when they are "in the house" common sense suggests at least empathy in criticism. Doesn't always work out that way, so we all deal as we deal, I guess. |

I remember getting slammed by someone a few years back. I mean, wow...talk about a sucker punch from left field. However, the guy wrote me back a year or so later and appologized saying that he was now on the 12 step program. It did keep me away from TDPRI for a while, but eventuially I came back, but not as often as I once did.
I would hope that younger players would appreciate hearing from us old farts on our adventures, accomplishments and advice. I know when I was young and fresh on the streets of Hollywood, I was befriended by Barney Kessell, who had a local music store. I mean, I was a nothing...a runaway, as a matter of fact. But he took some time and talked to me like I mattered. I never forgot that....through all my success over 4 decades I still never forgot how unbelievable and cool it was that the legendary Barney Kessell, whom I so admired, took the time to share a little of himself with a very young and green me. Anyway, just a thought. Peace & picking JB

Nice. The seasoned have seen it all, have a lot of stories to tell and most just want to give something back. I've never met Kessell and never got a chance to see the Great Guitars, but when I lived in LA through the 80's, I heard stories about the support and encouragement he got from Charlie Christian early on. Your story shows how Kessell paid it forward later.
