I just heard that Albert Lee was in Paris walking down the steet misjudged a curb fell and broke his arm in 2 places near the shoulder. He'll be out of comission for 45 days.

No need to break out the Pampers here. Anyway, I'm not famous but I once pissed off Ann Murray! I used to play this resort all the time that had 2 adjacent rooms, literally separated by one wall and a door. One room was the showroom for big acts and the other was the club room for working grunts, like us. When the big act ended we'd get the mob of people flowing into our room. It was cool because we always loaded in with the big acts so we got to hobnob with them, check out their gear, talk shop with their guitar techs, watch them soundcheck, etc. So one time we were playing our set and the stage manager comes running across the room making the "cut" motion with his finger across his neck. We stopped, mid-song, amidst a room full of confused faces, people stopping mid-dance. The stage manager tells us "Ann Murray can hear you guys in the next room and it's disturbing her. She threatened to walk off the stage." So we we took a nice long break until she finished. We had played that room dozens of times with big acts in the showroom and never had that happen. The sound was isolated enough that you couldn't hear much in the adjacent room. I can only imagine Ann was cringing at my masturbatory guitar soloing while trying to sing Snowbird. Awesome. Anyway, off-topic but wanted to lighten it up in here.

Sadly, I remember when being a legend in my own bedroom meant something else entirely...

Ah, to be young again... and also a robot.

In Response To A Post About Brad Paisley's Guitar Tech

Brent and Brad were talking about this on a show they did together in February. They don't post for the same reason that I post occasionally when people have questions for Brent Mason instead of Brent posting himself. Because the atmosphere gets hostile real fast. The few occasions that Brent has posted here in the past few years after an ugly fall out in 2004 is when I show him something that he feels strongly about - maybe ten times in the past few years. He never reads the forum and doesn't want to know what people say about him good or bad. He has no problem answering questions from people if I post the answers but he keeps a healthy distance from the tdpri and all the other guitar forums. There are hundreds and Brent is talked about on all of them, but Brad Paisley is talked about alot more than Brent. He laughs it off and pays no attention to it.

You may have famous people on the member list but very few come here more than a few times because of the way they get treated. The people that do it always say that is the nature of the forum, to pick apart players, etc., and everybody has a right to their opinion. However, if those people then posted some music on Twanger Central and got the responses that the well known musicians get (and thats not to say they dont get many nice responses but it always escalates into hatefulness) they would understand why these guys cut out of here and never come back after they have had enough. And yes, its a free country, say what you will, but don't expect those guys to hang around here and read it and continue to "hang" here. Also, since myspace began these guys can answer questions on their myspace page from people without having to subject themselves to guitar forums. Brent makes it a point to personally answer a few questions on his myspace every few days. He is one of many many musicians who are interacting in peace and harmony with people through myspace without all the hassle.

I really don't blame him and other other professionals. They need to focus on their art and not hurtful comments from a very few people who may be ignorant.

Keep in mind that now days any idiot can have a computer and a dial up connection and say whatever they want on any forum.

The rest of us appreciate that incredible artists like Brent Mason would even consent to address our questions.

Hey I once got snubbed by Bo Derek and I'm proud of it!

I work at a radio station where she was visiting one of the other radio stations in our building. When me a co-worker saw her at the end of the hall we naturally headed down there both trying to say hello or something stupid. She turned and walked away without saying a word.

Now how many guys can brag they were snubbed by her?

Awesome! That just tells me Bo's Mama learned her right when she said "if you see a man armed with a guitar and a crooked smile, you run like hell!"

I suspect we have some famous members here, dwelling in anonymity and definitely not posting to this thread. There's something capricious about why fame has chosen some hard working, talented guys and not others who are just as talented, just as hard working. If I'd somehow made it without too much of either, I for sure wouldn't be bragging on it here.

Here's to all my brothers who deserve some recognition.
i like that idea BB.

I'll vote for you if you vote for me

Amen

I can see someone simply stating that they don't like someone's tone, their new song, etc., but we don't need to go on and on picking apart people or their music or get personal. A little constructive criticism doesn't hurt anybody, but don't write a full page article on the artist or what they're doing wrong.

I don't love every song Brad or any of my favorite artists have done, but that's what fast froward is for. That doesn't mean they're not talented. Brent and Brad are obviously talented guys and anyone who says they're not has no taste.

We shouldn't make statements about others that we wouldn't want made about us. We also need to realize that these guys are human, and they put their pants on one leg at a time just like the rest of us.

I equally appreciate when anyone, regardless of level of fame or obscurity, addresses my comments or questions. If B. Mason wants to address my opinion, cool. If not, cool.
If a person expresses flaming negative comments about me, cool too. That's one person's view, and maybe I should take heed.

What does that mean?

If you are on a forum and do nothing but answer questions, be polite, try to have a good sense of humor, never say negative things about others or criticize or analyze anyone or anything, never get involved in threads you know nothing about or jump in with random unkind words, participate in the threads where you yourself are the subject of the thread and where you can enlighten people since they are talking about your own life , take the time to answer as many questions as you can but after all that you are continually flamed and run down for what you do for a living and how you do it what do you mean by "they should take heed"? I assume you are trying to use yourself and your response to being flamed to make a point about famous people that get flamed and how you feel they should react to it. Maybe you could clarify that for me. What is left for them to do but go away? And they have except for a small percentage so WHAT IS YOUR POINT? Did you mean they should take a good long look at of all the rude, arrogant posts and use them "to take heed." Take heed of WHAT?

maybe to take notice that said flamer is an immature jerk, and that you'll never please some people, and that life goes on.

now i'll agree, words can be hurtful, but i always find negative comments pretty easy to write off when they're made by some cat who's never met me hiding behind a computer screen a few hundred miles away from me.

that said, given the content of brent's posts i've read here, he's one of the last folks who deserves any flaming. i can remember specifically a time when i was attacked by some members for disagreeing with something brent said ("how dare you disagree with brent mason, you fool?") and ya know what? brent explained his point with me via PM and a repost. now, he didn't have to do that, but i thought it was damn cool. i think a lot of the trolls on the web who post the hurtful stuff are just that--trolls, picking fights they'll never have to actually stand up and face. it's a sad part of internet boards...when communication is so anonymous, some folks take advantage and get some kinda cheap thrill outta starting stuff.

i won't speak for tboy, but i don't think he meant anything outside his own personal feelings with his remark. in the end, how we respond to negative comments is just that, a personal descision.

i can imagine it's tough for a cat who's really made a name for himself to communicate on the internet...between all the butt kissing and the folks on the other side of the fence flat out hating, t'd take a lot of time and wading thru he crap to get at the stuff someone woud really come to a board like this for.

just my two cents, and worth less.

BWG-I got to tell you. I really feel bad about this. The one thing that people that are in the limelight appreciate it is a place where they can just be one of the gang. I have to tell you that I am very sorry that you or your husband have had such a bad experience with something that should be nothing but enjoyable. Do you think part of the problem is the focus that notoriety brings, and by that I mean that people tend to put people in these careers on pedestals? The "there but for the grace of god" thing?

Julie,

I hope I'm readin' this right...I honestly think tboy was pointing this at himself...he was saying it's cool either way if he gets a reply/comment.

He was also saying if he got flamed, it might require some introspection...at least that was how I read it. (please correct me if I'm wrong...)

Bottom line - don't y'all dream of running off - you are a welcome and vital part of this forum!!
