Low E bass/ magnet height.
I have a question about my telecaster. It has a dimarzio twang king in the bridge and when i play that pickup, it seems like the low E is too bassy compared to the rest of the strings... has anyone heard of that? Also I wanted to know how the different magnetic heights like vintage stagger/ all flat/ etc affect tone..thanks for your help.

I'm pretty sure it depends on the strings and magnets and most people will tell you to play with pickup height--move it up and down; more on the bass side, less on the bass side, more on the treble, less on the treble, etc., until you find what yhou are looking for. I think I'd start with down on the base side by half a turn and see how you like that. Still too much, go a quarter turn and check. Still not enough, keep going in half turns.

a well-designed pickup, whether flat-pole, staggered or whatever, should give an even response that height adjustment can deal with.
sometimes it's the guitar -- it may have a dominant or wimpy string. for instance, i had one with a wimpy high E. i had special pickups wound with a high polepiece on each pickup for the high E and that solved the problem.
