Tricky question, since I don't have more than 3 Fender Frontline catalogs.

But it seems to me it has to be somewhere between 1999 and 2005 ..

Sorry, can't be more specific ...

Agave Blue is not listed for the standard series in the 2000 Frontline, but is for 2002. So, it might have been first available in 2001 - I have a 2001 Frontline @ home & can check tonight to verify. Prior to Agave, Fender offered Midnight Blue in the standard series that was darker and had a purplish tint to it.

Thanks guys. For some reason, I thought Agave Blue was first used sometime during the sixties. I'm surprised it wasn't used until much later.

At least it's not listed as a custom color in the 60's, 70's or 80's.

So that's what it's called. This is a '95-'96 MIM Standard. I never knew the color name.

Looks like yours is probably Lake Placid Blue. They look pretty close to my eyes.

This is also LPB different cameras and lights makes it look different but Agave is always a couple shades lighter.

OK guys ............ Lake Placid Blue on the left. My '95-'96 MIM Standard on the right. Up close and personal, the one on the right is substantially lighter. That difference doesn't show up so well in this picture with artificial light. Maybe I can get a better picture in daylight. So .......... what color is my MIM Standard.

Followup to my earlier response:

Just checked my 2001 Frontline and Agave Blue is not listed so looks like 2002 was the first year. I have Frontlines back to 1998 and it wasn't offered then but I don't know about prior years. I always thought that Agave looks like somewhere between Ice Blue metallic and Lake Placid Blue. I'm not sure what color your MIM is, jwells393, but I think it's very attractive. Too light/greenish for Aquamarine - reminds me a lot of Ocean Turquoise but not quite as green. Seems to me that Fender may have had a color like "Catalina" or "Carribean" blue awhile back but don't recall for sure.

Here's another attempt to show the difference. LPB on the right this time.

Jack: the only other possibility that comes to mind is Teal Green metallic, which seemed kinda turquoise. I still think there may have been a Catalina or Carribean blue or something similar - remember seeing a strat from that era on Fleabay that caught my eye because of the unique color - may have had a matching headstock.

Just had another thought - be back in a few minutes........

Took a look at my "Stratocaster Chronicles" book thinking it might show some mid 90s pics or list colors, but no help there - sorry.

That's consistent with my pair. The Tele's a 2002 MIM Std.

I think the black PG on the Tele is throwing off the color. It isnt as metallac as LPB the Strat clearly shows the metallac color of the LPB.

Agave Blue was discontinued in 2006 I think at the same time the new upgrades were made on the STD models.

Didn't they have a special run of the Standards in Gun Metal Blue about the same time as the Agave Blue?

The Agave Blue loos cool with a black guard. I just got one and went for the white pearl, and I thought that was a great combination, but now, I'm re-thinking the black. But, actually I just thought in the last week or so about putting it up for sale anyway.

Here's a daylight picture of the Lake Placid Blue and the mystery blue. The mystery blue is definitely metallic.
