RiceCaster#069 - Review

After seeing some really HOT looking axes made by Rich and Chris Rice here on the forum I checked out their "instruments for sale" page and when I saw #069, boasting "Nancy Tone", and me being a HUGE Roy fan... well I just HAD to have her! So I bought her last November, about a week before a gig the day after Thanksgiving and she was absolutely EXCELLENT!!! The tone is to die for (I play through a Rivera Quiana most of the time for small to medium gigs), there is actually a recording of me playing her at the gig (doing "Sweet Dreams", of course!!) on the RCG website.
My cousin, who is an even bigger Roy fan than me (he actually jammed with him back in the early 80s) LOVED the guitar, he couldn't put it down when he came to visit and I showed it to him. Anyway, I have named her "Sophia" in honor of my late mother, because she is just so danged SWEET! Very light, the chunky neck has a very light hard nitro satin finish to it that I love (much better than the sticky nitro finishes Fender uses, why can't they figure it out?), and the pickups (Don Mare 2324 set) get a killer tone. Balance is great, I just can't think of anything I don't like about this instrument. If you can - get one folks you won't regret it!!!

And no - I am NOT affiliated with RCG - just love their instruments!! Next will be a full custom axe!Click image for larger version

I envy you, my friend! My next guitar will (hopefully) come from the Rice Custom Shop! If I had the funds available right now, #80 would be mine already. Just something about that Silver Sparkle!

Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy!!

Your concert shot really captures the essence of that guitar more than my photos did.
Thanks for the kind words!
