Case Candy

so what is the deal with Case Candy? I was selling a 52 Ri and had several inquires about "does it still have the case candy etc. Personally I buy the things to play and do not believe in obsessively saving every little scrap of paper that comes with a guitar.

guitar played great and was in great shape and all they want to know about was some advertising insert and branding memorablia.

Rant over

If you can enlighten me I am listening

Some folks just want something a little extra to sweeten the deal.

I like the strap and the ashtray and the allen wrench. The cord sucks and the extra 6 saddle bridge I don't use but I'd say all that 'candy' is more than just some stickers.

Actually you get a lot:

Strap
Cord
6 saddle bridge
ahstray cover
allen wrench
.022 mylar cap

Collecting is as popular (Or more popular) than playing.

Collectors want everything the guitar came with. When they go to sell the guitar, other collectors are going to want that case candy.

You MUST have the case candy! I never buy a guitar without the case candy. But I never touch the case candy! This way, when I sell the guitar, I can sell it with complete, untouched case candy.

No one in their right mind ever touches the case candy! It is not to be touched, only included! Once the case candy is touched, or God forbid, OPENED(!!!), it ceases to be case candy and becomes just extra stuff. THAT AIN'T CASE CANDY.

You must have the case candy.

But don't touch it.

I can listen to a MP3 of a guy playing, and I can tell if he got careless and did not get the case candy when he bought his guitar. His tone is like, urk.

You know what I mean?

Personally, the case-candy is unimportant. Sure, it´s fun to get it if I buy a brand newguitar.

There's a guy on ebay that dismantles new guitars and sells the parts.

He'll sell you case candy. "Buy it now".

$1000.00.

Then your guitar will be original. And Boris will like your tone!

Murph.

A case without candy is like... eh... just a case. When you have the candy in it, it's more than just a case, it's a case with the candy.

I'm surprised that some people don't get this.

What ?, you mean like ---- 'Case candy ?'

Aaaaaaaaah, now i'm getting it

Somebody is selling a piece of masking tape with a signature from a 50's Fender on eBay, you have to love collectors and the people who prey on them.

I suppose that you could argue that it gives a clue as to the sort of person you're buying from. I would be thinking that this is the sort of person who wipes his strings and never leans his guitars against the wall when he's finished playing.

Unless he's also got three years worth of free newspapers stacked up in the hall (in strict date order and cross-referenced by headlines) in which case he's just odd.

It's still not as bad as the eBay ads for "Tele style guitar - includes Fender plectrum" that you see every day over here.

That is true..... it's like the "mojo" in the guitar comes from the case candy... It energizes the mojo as it's in the case.... I swear...

The only candy that comes with the guitars I buy is this stuff called Silica Gel. It doesn't even taste good or sweet...What the hell kind of candy is that?

Actually, I buy guitars without cases cause I can't afford those high dollar guitars that come with cases and candy, so I guess thats why I get no candy, just silica gel...lol.

You're not eating enough of it. It eventually gets sweeeeeeet.

I always buy used cases with my guitars, and they're full of vintage candy. Usually some old Starbursts stuck to the plush. They're pretty good with some vodka...
