Added a new G&L to the family

I didn't have any cash, but had some trade stock laying around...well I added another G&L to the family...a natural finish ASAT Classic Tribute. I have seen mixed reviews of these guitars, but I really liked the first one, so the second was a no brainer for me!

I am sure I will adopt a few more teles in the future!

Can you tell a difference with the Neck pup covers off? I don't hear it much myself. NICE ASAT! P/G really offsets the natural finish.

I have that exact same Tribute in Black and love it. I just stepped up for a GE Smith Tele tonight though and it will prolly be taking over the number one positiuon of the Tribute. Thta Tribute is the best 430 bucks I've ever spent on a guitar. I often opt for the Tribute over a 3300 T. ANderson and a 2800 buck Les Paul - that's how good it is.

But the GE Smith -oh man! what a piece. If it's neck was just as non sticky as the tribute, it would be a super - guitar.

BroadMaster...No, I can't really tell much difference with the cover off the neck pickup. (Although I think the G&Ls do have a unique sound which isn't necessarily 100% tele-like.) I like the pickguard too, but it would also look good in flat black....maybe later.

Chabby...I know what you mean. The Tributes are really nice guitars for the money - much more guitar for the price than when I was younger. I have wanted a natural tele for a long time & the timing was just right. Tell us more about your GE Smith; I have not played one.

Good choice! My Tribute ASAT Classic is my only guitar right now and I don't feel like I'm missing anything with it. I played it right after playing some MIM Teles and was blown away by it.

That was a year ago. I still play it each and every day. I think it's been a great guitar for me to learn with. In fact, I definitely see more Tribute G&Ls in my future.

Couldn't agree more...

I love my ASAT Trib...Leo did indeed get it right, especially the pickups on the Classic.

Everybody ought to have at least one!

How's the neck feel on the ASATs ?
I haven't tried one yet but I own a Legacy HSS and the neck is flatter, larger and slimmer than a Strat which makes for a faster playing guitar (in my hands anyway). That is in part why I bought one over a Strat.
Do you find the Asat's neck shape to be closer to a Fender Tele or more like the Legacy ?

Yeah - everyone that grabs mine to try is immediately blown away by its punch and power, not to mention playability. It really is a Tele on steroids and is really a thing of it's own.

Every Tele player that picks it up asks me why it has so much more punchiness to it than their Tele's to which I reply I don't know unless it's just hotter pickups. But we determined it's also the neck-it's real snappy and gives you alot of pop on the attack.

Never played a Legacy. They are fairly thin and the finish is not "sticky" at all like some guitars. The neck is more substantial than my Squier's neck though. I like them alot.

I don't think the neck's anything like the two Fender tele necks I've got, which are both very different from each other. (I;ve never played a legacy)

It's difficult to describe, but I think it's wider and flatter. In any case, it's real substantial feeling, and a pleasure to play.

Well if it's remotely close to the Legacy's neck feel, I'll own one shortly.
Can't believe I haven't tried an Asat after all these years, I've only played Legacys... I've been too busy lurking around Telecasters I guess.
I'm off to the music store right now so I'll finally give them a try today.
Contratz on the new guitar by the way; looks good!

I had one and sold it.

It had all the good things already mentioned going for it but it and I just weren't meant to be.

I heard the new owner play it the other night in blues bar through a music man tube amp and it sounded AWESOME!

It just didnt have any mojo for me in it!

They are different...comparing it to my Squier, its hotter, less twangy, more quacky...they sound totally different thru an amp with the same settings. It took me a while to get used to the first one, but I have grown to really like them.

If you want to know the type of neck finish on a Tribute G + L, look no further than the finish on a Squier, especially the Indonesian ones. So happens, the Indo Squiers and the Tributes are since early 2007 all made at the Cor-tek facility in Surubaya.
As for neck profile, nut width, radius, fret size and so forth, best to just say that G + L Tributes necks are across the board more generic than their US counterparts.
Suppose you have a US G + L that you would kill to protect, but now you are asked to play a seamy, rough place where the guitar may be needed for self defense.
Substitute a Tribute with the same basic body shape, same pickups and go play that rat-hole, and if someone steals the Tribute, go find another for $ 250.
Not the same really, but most audience types will never begin to know.

Some of us can't afford to use our best guitar for a weapon or as a decoy...I suppose I am happy you can.

nice git!

i never played the Tribute series, but currently have more-than-1 USA ASATs, and Fenders cannot begin-to-be what these things are.

dont get me wrong, I LUB FENDERS , but USA G&L's ARE *all that and-a-bag-of-chips!*

Not familiar w/ the foreign G&L's, but I've had a US G&L ASAT deluxe for awhile now and it's not a REALLL tele. HOWEVER it's waayyy better than most Fenders I've been around. It feels like a custom shop. You wanna talk tone? It is the epitome of TONE! It has a rosewood neck and generally I don't do rosewood, but it sounds and plays so good I could never part with it. A lesser guitar and the rosewood would have been traded off long ago! Good on ya man, G&L's are all good in my book!

I've read some negative things about the Tributes, but my (Korean-made) Tribute S-500 is my strat-shaped-object of choice. Punch and quack for days! I really think you can't go wrong with a Tribute, and the main thing is simply that you're happy with the guitar. Good on ya! (My S-500 is also natural with tortoise pickguard - my favorite color scheme!)

I like both of mine. I need to save up for a Rice! That is going to be a family member in the future!

The Tribute I have is as good a player as money can really buy. You put a blindfold on and you'd never know it was any different form any other G&L ASAT. They are that good. AT lest the one I have made in Indonesia. And they are good right off the shelf too, unlike some other indonesian guits.
