Help with info on Tele
I think it's a MIJ, '62 Reissue, made in 1985 (using the serial number on the bridge plate). I've not taken off the neck, but I understand that's a good way to date it as well.
I'm sure the collective Tele genius on this board can help me out. I've owned this thing since about 1990, and I'm not looking to sell it, but I'd like to know (for sure) what it is, and what it's worth. Thanks! Oh--all I've done to it is replace the pickguard (it had a white one--not sure if it was one-ply or three). |

They all start with A so you cant use the bridgeplate serial to date it.
It looks nice could be anywhere from an 85-90's take the neck off thats the best way to tell.

Well I bought it in 1990 or 1991, so it's at least a bit older than that.
Does it seem to follow the 62 RI guidelines? There WAS a MIJ 62RI, right? I've found conflicting reports. Maybe the neck is the only way to check to be sure. Should have done it when I changed strings last. |

They dont call them 62ri's that name goes with the USA models.
Its acrually called a 62 Custom Telecaster model #27-5100 You can remove the neck with the strings still on just loosen them and capo at the 1st fret or use a rubber band to hold the strings down all you need to do is lift it up the date should be on the butt end of the neck. I love these early MIJ's they are great guitars.

Oh yeah, it's a great guitar. Very nice neck, great action, nice pups. Like I said, I don't plan on selling it. I'm just curious exactly which model it is, when it was made, and what it's worth.
I'll check the neck date. |

Rob/Gig:
Thanks. I think it's a nice one. Feels great, too. I really like the sunburst/black pickguard combo. The white just wasn't feeling right to me. The black lends a bit of edge to it somehow. I dunno--personal taste I guess. It plays like butter, too. Smooooooth feeling. But I'd like to learn more about the pups. They have a nice bite to them. |

So I took y'all's advice and took off the neck. Pretty easy/quick, and here are the results. Made July 1, 1985. The body code, if I'm reading it correctly, states it's a TLC (Telecaster) 62 (1962 reissue), B (Sunburst). Is that right? Or a strange coincidence?
So the number on the bridge plate IS the serial number for this guitar, then, right? 'Cause there isn't a serial number listed anywhere else. |
