Ideas for new Palo Escrito owners
Someone here who is getting one of the stupid deals of the day Palo Escritos should remove the stock neck keeo it or sell it and replace it with an all rosewood neck.
Anyone plan on doing that???

Rosewood neck?
I have been thinking about that, however Warmoth would be the most obvious provider of that, and they insist on keeping their exotic wood necks on the thin side; if I were to set the stock slab board neck aside it would have to be for a larger girth neck.
But yeah, that was absolutely on my mind when I pulled the trigger on the guitar. I guess I'll ask Tommy the next time we talk if he has a stash he might not be braggin' on. Gotta wait until the thing comes in to see what other type of wood this top resembles most. I don't think padauk would be close enough, but the brazilian rosewood one is $ 900. Hoo-boy.

That sure would look nice....
But, if the stock neck is a player... I just don't see swapping it out, and if it's a crap neck the guitar will definitely be returned. As an FSR, I doubt I'll do any major mods. PG and saddles are the only thing I'm thinking. "Rainy day/Just in Case/Bloom Comes Off" - I figure it will hold it's resale if I can keep it clean.

Foolish Boy
I was just whining on Warmoth's lack on hands on customer care for us amateurs.
Well, I called there on something else, and just happened to hit it off with the guy I spoke to. You can order an Indian Rosewood one piece Tele neck in Vintage Modern style, either Fatback or Boatneck, either 1.675 or 1.625 for $ 237 plus shipping. Skunk stripe and neck plug will be another contrasting tropical wood. So I think it can be done, if you get the right service guy.

Yup, just one, though. A 'legal' no finish neck will be fun.
Now, where did that 'Palo' Birdsnest sent back go? That one was perfect for a neck transplant.

What about a neck made out of Goncalo Alves? I guess you'd have to use something else for a fingerboard though (they suggest maybe ebony?). Looking at their web page it works OK with no finish.

I think the Goncalo Alves would be too light in color, from samples I've seen.
I don't know if I have the nerve to pull the Palo's neck to try this incoming rosewood neck on there. I wish I'd bought 2 Palos so I could mess with the less well set up one; this one is awful nice as is. FWIW, I hear there's a NOS Palo Escrito 60's Classic Tele in a Fender dealer on the North side of Gulfport, Mississippi available for sale. Medium weight, 3 piece alder body, bookmatched veneer, not too bad looking. NOT $ 449 I'll bet. And there's the one I played in Jacksonville Beach, FL at the George's that's probably still there because the price was jacked up.
