Anyone ever heard Blue Water Girl By Brent Mason???

I was cruising the net today and I signed up on Brent's site. I got a confirmation email from Brian Wamplers site and they directed me to the Brent myspace page:

http://www.myspace.com/thebrentmason

I went there and he has some of his acoustic and Jazz tunes on the site. This man never ceases to amaze me, and I do mean amaze. I had never heard Blue Water Girl before but it is the BOMB. If you haven't heard it I encourage ya'all to head over and give it a listen. I didn't even know that he had written a tune by that name. I don't know for sure if it is his voice, but there is a tune on the site called Speed of Life, and if it him singing he has a hell of a voice.
Another one of those light's under a basket deals.
Anyway a nice experience.

Yes I know his wife uses the name for her screen name. I am talking about the song he recorded with the same name. Very Cool.

Blue Water Girl Is My User Name Because Of That Song

Sort of an inside joke. Almost all Brent fans have the album Hot Wired or have at least heard it a few times with that song on it and when they come on this forum they know why I have chosen to be called that. It took about two minutes for my identity to be "busted" when I first joined here!

I love that song too. It is about 11 years old. Brent wrote it in 1997 and it appears on his album Hot Wired which was released by Mercury in 1997.

The song came first, then I chose the title to use as a user name here when I joined in 2004, 7 years later because the Blue Water Girl he wrote the song about is ME!!! It's my favorite and also Brent's favorite of all his songs. Brent gave me the nickname Blue Water Girl long ago because I love the ocean so that has always been my special song and a tribute from Brent.

The song on his myspace with the vocals (Speed of Life ) is Brent singing. When you click on that song the information appears.

This also tells me that you have never listened to any of the album Hot Wired nor his newest album Smokin Section

He sings two songs on Smokin Section. He is a great singer/songwriter. He is quite famous for one song that he sings entitled "Lucky Man" which appeared on a cd released by TNN in 1999 called "The Players." I think I will request that one also be put on his myspace page since no one can buy the album anymore except for used copies on amazon or ebay. It's beautiful and was on hold by Rascall Flatts and Tim McGraw at one time, but ended up never being recorded by either of those groups.

Rather than spending time typing about it - his bio on myspace explains how he was signed to a record deal in the mid nineties as a vocalist as well as a guitarist and why he decided to pull out of it and focus on session work. He sang and played guitar on demos in Nashville for several years in the 80's and quite a few of his songs have been recorded by major artists including Johnny Mathis! His voice is amazing and he sings several numbers when he performs at Third and Lindsley with The Players a few times a year.

He also plays alot of cool stuff which is in a collection used for television and movie soundtracks and 13 cuts from a library of over 100 songs can be heard on

http://www.soundclick.com/brentmason

I remember a while back you told me that you could always tell when Brent was playing and I told you that wasn't so, that he had many many diverse playing styles besides what you hear on country radio and I see now you havent really heard anything of his that is original since he has three solo albums out there you have never heard! Do ya believe me now?!

Anyway - so glad you like it - it is very beautiful. He played it once with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra - they asked him if they could play it and would he do the guitar part during one of their performances and it was so awesome.

No, BWG I have listened to quite a bit of his work so I was really surprised that I hadn't heard these two. I also saw the pics of your daughter. Looks like a great kid. Taking after dad in the playing area I see. But....GASP...playing what looked like a PRS??????? AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

That is a beautiful song.

For a long time it was almost impossible to get any of his CD's.

That is the youngest daughter, Zoe when she was around 12 years old. Now she is getting a car so time does fly! Brent took her to his storage unit to pick out any of his extra guitars she wanted for her very own and she picked that one because it looked the most cool according to her. She is still playing on and off, none of our daughters have even a fraction of the musical drive Brent had at their age. I must have really watered down the genes and dna because they are more concerned with cell phones, cars, computers and clothes - we call that the four C's at our house! (if we are talking about where all our money goes then it is the five C's - just add college to the list!) And none of them can bear to listen to him play and certainly not sing for more than a few minutes tops. Ah, kids these days!

Sound like perfectly normal, well developed, grounded teenage girls to me.

All I can say is I own the hot wired album, smokin section, Brent's hot licks video, Brent's guitar star program, and the players dvd that came out. They are all amazing and worth every penny you will spend on them. Even if you have to give close to a hundred bucks sometime for hot wired on ebay. Brent was nice enough to autograph some of my stuff when I went to watch the players play a year or so ago. Also well worth the trip (I'm just in Kentucky anyway) to Nashville. Got to meet Jimmy Olander as well, both him an Brent were super nice and friendly. Anyway, maybe I'll get to meet Blue Water Girl herself next time I come to see them play and I'll definately have a few more things for Brent to sign. And I gotta do a little more research for my "Brent's gray tele wanna-be project".

I'm listening to the song as I write this. It's my favorite Brent tune as well, but I love all of the Hot Wired album. Very varied, while still having its own musical identity .

Funny, I was listening to hot Wired in the car yesterday and when I got home, I transferred BWG to my phone, it's a great track to relax to and I can play it anywhere now that it's on my phone.

Hot Wired is a very diverse album , I have to check out the newer ones too.
BWG is sort of Larry Carlton/Lee Riteour (two other heroes of mine) style.

YOur girls sound like my girl! I teach guitar and play in a band and have been collecting fer a long time. You would think She would wanna learn from the old man, but she wanted to play bass. I tried t teach her but she never praticed and eventually gave it up. The only thing I get is that she loves to hear me play, and now is just coming to the age she can see me in the bars with her freinds. It is kinda cool.
