94 MIM Project Pix
I picked up this 94 MIM Tele a month or so back and have finally gotten around to fixing it up.
Here's a "before" shot: ![]() It is a toploader and came with a very rattley six barrel bridge. The tuners were also pretty lame. I also got the jones to try a Lollar Chicago Steel pickup in the neck position, so after collecting parts, including the Chicago Steel and a Lollar J Street Bridge pickup for the bridge, of course, the transformation began. ![]() With new bridge (still toploading) and Chicago Steel in the neck. ![]() ![]() The jury is still out on the pickups. Definitely not the same guitar that it began life as. I'm going to play the heck out of it for a couple of weeks and see how it goes. |

Looks pretty good to me, whats the deal with the neck pickup? never heard of it.
Am I the only person in the world that likes the look of a white PG on those vintage-off white colours? I thought it looked snazzy before the mods too!

The neck pickup is based on a Supro/Oahu/Valco lapsteel pickup.
Here's a clip from Lollar's site: http://www.lollarguitars.com/mp3/Chi...eel6String.mp3 It's very hot and I'm trying to work out a balance between it and the bridge pickup. The Chicago Steel is pretty fat and nasty sounding, but I think it may sound better set a bit higher, but then it overpowers the bridge pickup. As I said, I'm not sure whether I like it or not, but I'm giving it some time. Tonight I just got it wired up and played it a bit at lower volumes. Tomorrow I can crank it up and get a better feel for it. |
