Poppin' the hood - NEW Blackguard...

Decided to try out a blackguard on my American Deluxe. What do you think?

here is a before shot:

I was surprised that the Am Dlx body was routed for 3 pickups. But what do I know....

and here it is after:

do you like the pearl? or the blackguard? I know some people believe that a rosewood neck needs a light pickguard, but I like how dark it makes it....

so there it is. my first mod. (does this count as a mod?) let me know

My choice would be a plain white guard.

blackguard-
but may I suggest a one ply blackguard. With the binding, the white stripe on the pg takes away from the beauty of that binding. Kinda makes it busier. 1 ply black would definatly make that binding "pop". btw- beautiful guit.

My vote is still 1 ply blackguard.

For me the white looks much better. The brown of the neck and the black of the guard just don't look good together.

Just my $.02

I like the black better, but agree a one ply matt black would be the best.

I kinda feel that the rosewood actually flows into the black real nice. Looks a little bit more rock & roll w/ the black, simpler. The pearl just oozes "classy country". my .02

Guess I never realised that an Am deluxe was routed for a bucker and a middle stratty pup. interesting

I think the old pickguard looks better because it matches the white binding. The 3 ply black still looks good though because the white ply still ties it into the binding. I guess I'm not really helping!

yeah, me neither. surprise! I might be adding a SD minibucker to the neck and a high output in the bridge. Then I could buy a MIM and put my Bill Lawrence Noiseless set in it! Someday...

I really like the black guard....I think the 3-ply looks good, but would have to agree that a single-ply black would look even a bit better! Great idea - I wouldn't have thought of even trying a black guard on a cherry burst...looks very cool.

Also love that western case - have one for my tele, too. I think it may even make it play better. ;)

Black guard works for me. I would even like a tortoise more than that white pearloid that was on there.

I like the original pearl myself.
I would also probably put a humbucker or humbucker sized P90 in the neck as well. :-)

Original pearl - but I'm biased because I have that exact same guitar.

Single-ply black. Other than that, nice!
