2003 MIM Tele... 60s reissue? Rosewood .. Laminate? body

i posted about this once before but the post went down in flames.

there is a local shop that has a neat looking tele.. it appears to be basically a 60s reissue/classic, 2003 MIM...pretty standard, right.. except this one has a rosewood body... now i'm guessing this is a laminated thing.. perhaps alder or ash sandwiched between 2 thin slices of rosewood. anybody familiar with the model ? was it a special run or something ?

they have a kinda high price on it, IMO, $700 ... i guess its considered 'new old stock' . i really like the guitar, but i don't want to pay 7 bills for it. LOL

Don't remember just when these were available. I think Dr. Mark Davis will have information on this. I think it's a Standard Telecaster with rosewood veneer front and back with the body sides painted black. Similar to the CIJ rosewood veneered models but with a natural maple neck.

I think $700 is much too high.

hey j, yeah i figure 7 bills is a bit much.. but it does seem to be a 60s reissue model and not a standard MIM. it has an ashtray bridge with 3 threaded saddles, and the neck is rosewood fretboard, maple back with a glossy tint. spaghetti style logo, SN on back, vintage kluson style tuners

i'm thinking its a $500 guitar, maybe $550.... i've just never seen one before, that's why I'm doing the reality check here.

I remember that one. It was a limited or special edition, much like the Koa, and Palo Escrito Tele's (both priced at $700).

that may be the same guitar. the headstock appears to be maple..which is the same as the one i'm talking about... but the local one here has a white pearloid... MOTL .. type pickguard.. course i guess that could've been changed by someone

Tdot is correct.

It was called the Rosewood Tele its MIM and its basicly a 60's Classic body with a thin veneer of rosewood on it.

The neck is exactly the same as the 60's Classic.

They had a street price of $700 new.

They were only made for about 6 months in 2003.

So yes its basicly exactly like a 60's Classic with a rosewood veneer just like the Palo Escrio but not as wild of a grain

White or mint green pickguard. It was identical to the 60's Classic except for the rosewood veneer on the body.

I play one, I bought it second hand a couple years ago, I paid around 500$ for it. I think I just got really lucky (prices are generally a bit higher in Finland). The guy selling it thought it was a Lite Ash tele (for some reason). I love this guitar. It plays like a dream and sounds really good. I've also gotten compliments on it from pwoplw who understand way more about good guitars than I do
