Serial number is on the bridge plate and the AV52 doesn't say "Made in USA" on it anywhere, so that's all normal.
Going by the pics if it's a fake it's a very good one, it looks right to me save for the replacement compensated saddles (not an unusual mod to make). The colour and finish look right and the bridge has a serial number stamped on it. They look like OV52 pups. Pickguard is correct as are all the slot-head screws. Tough to be totally sure without seeing it in the flesh but from the photos it looks like an AV52. A nice one too, not too pumpkin coloured. Why are you thinking fake or homebrew? |

For the serial, thanks for the info, so it is on the bridge plate. That's ok. |

The angles formed going into the heel don't look exactly right to me. It appears too rounded, ala warmoth or aftermarket somebody. I may just not see it right, in the blur.
Caveat emptur! Which I think you are being, by asking.

Here a couple of things you can do to verify if its a USA 52RI. One is to check that the decal on the headstock is over the finish, not under it.
Second, take off the neck and look in the neck pocket. You may well find a black stamped number in it "18354". This is the Fender part number for a 52ri body. Also, have a look in the rout under the neck pickup, - there may be well be a sticker under it with a bar code and a number including the digit string 18354. If you have these features, its for real! (If there not there, it doesn't mean its not genuine, - I don't think every 52 has these stamps/stickers, might depend on year). As previously stated, a 52ri does have its serial number on the bridge, and a blank neckplate. Also, I think the alignment of the saddles suggests the owner might have done the "bent screw" trick to improve intonation. Good luck Rick J

I'd walk away from this one if I were you.
AV52RI's are common enough that you'll have no trouble buying one from a reputable seller. Let someone else buy from the only guy who managed to incorporate the MySpace picture phenomenon into guitar pictures. |

I think that's correct that you can't go by the serial number on reissues to date them. Also, if I remember correctly doesn't fender use old serial numbers (on this one has) on their reissues? I was also thinking the reissues are supposed to have a dot or asterisk or something stamped under or around the serial number so you'll know it's not an original vintage bridge? Anybody else heard this?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but....
The little "dipple" (small raised dot) under the number was on the first few series of 52's which had the same format 4 digit serial number as the originals. The later ones have a 5 digit serial number format, which wouldn't then be confused with originals, and don't therefore have the "dipple".
