Cheap woods? And would it be ok?
Hello,
I found this lumber place online. They will cut your custom size also. What do ya think of the price & would it work for guitar? 1-3/4" X 14" pine/ash -> $8.86/foot 1-3/4" X 14" poplar -> $7.25/foot I asked them if their woods are kiln dried and stable enough for guitar building but have not gotten an answer. http://www.bairdbrothers.com/mm5/mer...g-130S4S-05ASH |

I don't think the price you posted for ash is correct since a 1 1/2 x 11 1/2 piece is $11.96 per ft.

What they are probably quoting on custom sizes is bd/ft price. And, to make matters worse when trying to figure out cost, these days a board foot is not a board foot when they ring up the till. A board 1 1/2" thick x 12 x 12" is sold as 2 bd/feet.

I just email Bairdbrothers and asked about Ash or Pine blanks, 1 3/4 x 13 x 18 for guitar bodies. Told them that grain counts because both would be translucent finishes and the lighter the better.
Their reply, 'Your choice of woods, $31 each.' I did not think to ask about moisture content.
