I'm sure there must be one out there alittle lower in price.$125 seems awful high for a plate.

How much cut-a-way do you want?

If you want a G. E. Smith type bridge, forum member Pete Galati posted this method of cutting an ashtray bridge some time back. Looks like a good method and looks like he did a great job.

If you just want the raised edge taken down, I'd say spend a little time with a bench grinder and a file.

OK ............... try it now. I had copied a previous post I made and forgot that the forum software shortens links and therefore what I first posted wasn't the complete address. It appears to be working now.

Check ebay for a store called Bridgeworks. He has those for even less than $69, I believe.

Here's that bare bridge plate......... $44.75. Almost $50 with shipping. Still seems a bit pricey to me.

I'm confused.
I'm looking at the products offered by this e-bay seller as 'Genuine Fender' and they are stamped 'Fender' and 'Pat. Pend.' but some do not look like variants FMIC has actually ever used on their products.
The stuff doesn't look all that bad, I'm just not sure what I'm experiencing here.

......

since this can be self-done to any ash-tray type bridge plate with a dremel tool in no more than 30 minutes....have done this myself to several plates and also cut some out to accept a synth pickup....it's easily done....i will admit i did screw up the first one i tried but no problems since...save your money and try it out on a $10 evil-bay plate....

of course you have to do something to the edges so they don't rust ... like re-plate the bridge. I am guessing that's why there is a premium price.

The eBay ad for that hacked Fender part doesn't mention anything about replating, just says "The Notched-Areas are then polished smooth to match the rest of the bridge plate."

This will rust.

I used a Dremel Moto-tool and did this procedure to reduce just part of the edge/side of a Fender bridge plate. Although its no longer plated, mine didn't rust...

but if it does, use clear nail polish or maybe some Testors silver enamel model paint to cover it up and prevent rust.
