Filling chips in neck laquer?

I have an American Series strat with maple neck/board. When I bought it years ago I noticed it had some untidy build up around some of the frets. Then I noticed that partly scratches off with your nail. However only partly, and some of it took chunks out of the neck laquer exposing the raw wood. Is there anything I can do to protect this, short of stripping and re-finishing? Thanks...

A small toothpick with a dash of nitro-lacquer should do the job. I've made a clean job on my CS neck but it's a nitro-finish neck and the nitro on nitro tends to stick very well, the repair is nearly invisible.
Anyway if your issue is just to protect the wood from staining, it should works.

Good work!
