The third screw on a Tele bridge pickup

How do you guys use this screw? I always thought it primarily to help level out the pickup. Is that true? Are there any tone tweaks you can make using that screw?

I tinker too much

Now you've got me started. I guess you could remove the tubing and use screws of variable composition and thread wear to influence microphonics. Not that I would get that crazy........
