'55 RI neck

Hi folks,

I just received my '55 CIJ RI neck. Wow. It's a beauty! Unfortunately, the heel is too big for my neck pocket. The body in question is a custom double f-hole Thinline body. When I was putting together my Partscaster I took the '84 MIJ Strat neck and placed it in the neck pocket of the Thinline. It certainly was the right width and depth. The only thing preventing it from being a perfect fit was the fact that the Strat neck has a rounded edge while a Tele neck has the straight heel.

Does anyone know if the '55 neck is non standard? I couldn't find any information on this.

Thanks!

...First of all where did yew find a " '55 CIJ RI neck" ?

...Is the neck jes tew wide fer the body and if sew how much. 1/32"? 1/16"?

...If the body issa home made er custom yew kin jes file on both sides of the neck pocket tew make the neck fit.

...If the neck iss finished I wood dent mess with it.

Hi Fuzzy,

Thanks for the reply! I got the neck off of eBay from The Stratosphere (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...051&rd=1&rd=1).

I haven't had a chance to measure the heel yet. But I imagine that it's 1/16 too big.

Yes...the body is custom ("home made"...ha!...I got it off of eBay as well...actually nicely done...bookmatched flame maple - rear routed - double f-hole - double humbuckers). And like I said...the strat neck fit fine. Maybe my memory is not serving me well at the moment.

I'll will take your advice and file down both sides of the pocket until it fits nice and snug.

Thanks again!

...WOW! nice lookin neck.

...Mess with that body and don't touch that neck. I haff dunn it many times even onna regular body cause it don't show afterwerds, The neck will show any sandin or file marks and wood haff tew be refinished.

...Good luck and use a 1/2" or 3/4" flat file and be careful.

I have posted before, that for some reason, I've run into many MIJ and CIJ necks that are a tad oversize for MIM and USA Fender bodies...and of course the reverse holds true..that USA and MIM necks can be sloppy in MIJ and CIJ Bodies...don't know why...but I've run into it a least a dozen times.
