Some questions about installing a neck
alright i have a peavey raptor that was my first electric got it used at some little hole in the wall the being the beginer i was i didnt think to look at the frets or anything like that so to make a long story short a few frets are coming up on the sides and theres a ton of fret buzz pretty much every where. so im considering ordering a replacement neck for it, now i havent taken any measurment or done anything real serious yet but my questions are.
1) if the neck is narrow do i shim ( if you can see part of the back of the neck pocket) and if its to big do i sand the neck pocket till it fits , 2) will the length of th heel be any problem ie to short/long regarding fitting in the neck pocket & lastley 3) where the neck rises above the pickguard is it a problem if to much comes up of it or can it be fixed by raising the saddles and installing a taller nut & if its to short do i just put some shims behind it to raise it above the pickguard well i hope this makes some sort of sense im not the greatest at relaying ideas via typing. Thanks tom |

These guitars sell new for $140-$150. A new neck will cost more than that. Get a new guitar.
Here's one ............. $149 and free shipping. Better yet, buy the Squier Affinity Telecaster.

i actualy have tw other guitars (mim tele and a rondo strat copy) that where supposed to replace it but rondo music sells replacement necks @ 35 dollars excluding tuners & shipping so i figured id give it a go since i already have locking tuners to put in it and the peavey as it sit has a cool rails & hot rails that i thought would be cool coupled together at the bridge making a splitable bucker with via on/on/on switch. but ya i wanted to replace it a for fun & that guitar was super light. but id definatley agree with you guys and say the same if we where talkin a 200 dollar neck but thanks for the advice and not just muttering newb under your breath.
thanks Tom |

Well .............. $35 is a different story. I'd say buy the neck and then ask your questions when you know what you have to deal with. It's kind of a waste to speculate on problems that may not exist. I'd be interested in learning what sort of neck you get for $35.

You could pawn it and put the money into an upgrade on your other guitars. No offense but is it really worth the upgrade? I was gonna buy a new body for a $200 ibanez and said wait, why am I spending half the money I spent on the guitar when it's not what I really need/want anyway?
