Kluson tuners

I have a '56 and a '66 neck that both needed new tuners. So I bought 2 sets of RI Klusons from e-Bay. But when I installed them, I encountered a little problem... The headstock on the '56 is rather thin making the tuners fit perfectly. But the headstock of the '66 is much thicker. See the pic (http://www.geocities.com/f.walboomers/klusons.jpg). The tuner posts only stick out half way or so. Besides, seen from the front, this leaves an opening between the tuner posts and the bushings. Not very nice... Anybody can help? Are there other RI tuners on the market that do not have this problem ? Thanks, Frank

typical problem for necks from that period

I've seen some mid sixtys strats that had thick headstocks and even with original tuning keys they had the same problem that you describe. If it were me I wouldnt worry about it as long as it doesnt effect the things ability to tune up and stay in tune .

Exactly... They were thicker in the mid to late 60's.... As long as they stick up enough to wind the string, you'll be okay.
