RS Guitarworks Compensated Tele Saddles?

Seems to be a new item, anyone tried these? For $14.95, they're quite a bit cheaper than the others. Not a vintage look, but if they work well and sound good, I'm OK with that.

Thanks,

Loudboy

I'd also like to know. I just ordered a compensated steel and aluminum set for $14.95 each set. I've already got a wilkinson brass set on my tele that I'm going to compare to.

Nice, thanks for the tip. You can get them in brass, steel or aluminum for that price - here's the link.

Just got them in the mail. The "steel" ones, are in fact, chrome-plated brass . At least the "aluminum" ones are aluminum.

That's disappointing. I wonder now about the "steel" ones Callaham started selling recently. The Allparts threaded saddles I have (ordered through a local Allparts dealer) are brass underneath the nickel (or similar) plating.

Yegbert,

Don't worry, my man.. i would bet the farm Callaham's are not only steel, as advertised, but very high quality. Say what you want about Callaham's claims on his web site and his prices, but he is an square dealer. If he says it is steel, it is. I got $1000 bucks that says you can scrape all day and all you are gonna find on that saddle is more steel.

His brass are advertised as ultra smooth highly polished navel brass... and sure as i am typing on the TDPRI they are exactly that.

Why the heck would they call them "steel" if they're not steel?!

I am about to order a set, but this whole chrome plated nonsense has me waiting... I'll email somebody up there...

I'd love steel comps for that cheap for my current "reverse" Esquire Partscaster I'm putting together.

That may not be brass you see, but the copper used in the plateing process.

Hmm, I guess I need to install them and hear for myself. You may be right .

Okay, it's confirmed. The "steel" saddles are actually chrome plated ferrous steel (sticks to magnet). The saddle dimensions and metric screw thread size are identical to the Wilkinson ones, so they will fit the smaller sized rear bridge holes of the Wilkinson bridge.

Very nice to have compensated aluminum and steel sets for $15.

Yep, well almost (they're NOT chromed, but are nickel plated). They said:

"They are nickel plated cold roller steel. We do have
aluminum saddles but they are unplated."

I usually like Brass, but on this Esquire Partscaster I'm building, I think I'm going to go for maximum brightness - steel here I come :)

I would be suspicious of anything that RS sells at a "bargain" price. While much of their offerings are top quality, the stuff is outrageously expensive.
BTW, have you ever seen one of their hundred year old Pine bodies?
Look fantastic but again, far from cheap.

i am gonna try the aluminum ones just for kicks.... i see you need a minimum order of $19.00 grr.... i got 2... maybe i should have gotten one steel and one Al set... oh well..

we'll see... I have never seen Callaham's or the Wilkenson ones... if there is someone here who has both and can compare i would be curious to know how they measure up.

I woulda got the Wilkinson bridge, but they're out of stock at GuitarFetish :(

I guess I actually saved a few bucks anyways though :)

I ended up getting an actual Fender plate and these saddles. All I need now is pots, a pickgaurd, and to polish the body (and mount/install everything once the neck gets here).

I am thinking Fender plate w/ these saddles makes a great sounding and CHEAP combo! I love affordable stuff that works!

I'd love to hear from anyone who gets those steel or aluminum ones installed, what they sound like.

I'm not asking for a scientific assessment, just a subjective opinion.

But prior to any belly button lint polishing would be preferable.
